If so then why don't we have a single mandatory universal national ID system? It would save billions and simplify everything.

Can the government require you to have an ID to exercise your rights?

How else can the government ensure that you actually have the rights?

The ID issue is best left up to the states. Let's keep as much control away from the federal government as possible.

Be patient.

Such a card is coming -- whether under a Democratic or Republican government.

Just look at all the cards one already carries in one's wallet or purse.

A national ID card is just logical in this increasingly authoritarian world.

Social security numbers actually provided that for many years.
An SSN database linked with biometrics would make all interactions simpler and secure.

Try getting on an airplane, checking into a hotel, cashing a check or sitting up a bank account, receiving healthcare, buying beer or cigarettes, shipping FedEx or UPS, obtaining credit, renting a house or apartment, getting a job, or a million other mundane daily affairs.

There's only one reason that Democrats don't want an ID used on Election Day and it rhymes with FRAUD.

The trouble is not prosecuting the ones who actually get caught:
Quite a few Trump voters were caught casting illegal ballots for dead or missing relatives. In each case, judges didn't exactly throw the book at them.
Want more?

GOP megadonor Steven Hotze charged after a bogus election fraud scheme led a former cop to threaten a repairman

The charges stem from Hotze’s hiring of more than a dozen private investigators to look for voter fraud in Harris County ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

So WHO exactly is committing FRAUD??

Yes, but it only takes 1 state to give license/ID to anyone and everyone. There needs to be a national minimum criteria for states to meet.

You have to show ID to enter a federal court building or to get on a plane.
Best leave the states to handle ID issues. Real ID.

The Real ID Act of 2005 (stylized as REAL ID Act of 2005) (Pub.L. 109–13 (text) (PDF), 119 Stat. 302, enacted May 11, 2005) is an Act of Congress that modifies U.S. federal law pertaining to security, authentication, and issuance procedure standards for drivers' licenses and identity documents, as well as various immigration issues pertaining to terrorism.

The law sets forth requirements for state drivers' licenses and ID cards to be accepted by the federal government for "official purposes", as defined by the Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security. The Secretary of Homeland Security has defined "official purposes" as boarding commercially operated airline flights, and entering federal buildings and nuclear power plants, although the law gives the Secretary unlimited authority to require a "federal identification" for any other purposes.[4]

I have posted this many times. One card for everything. Hunting license, driving license, voting ID, any welfare programs, fishing license...

It can contain both federal and state. It is 2022. Let's live like it is.

So you support a national ID? We can even use it for universal background checks!

Why should we leave it to states? Creating a national id and registration prevents bullshit like what Mark Meadows did..

The government could do skin chips, but only for the extremist CT kookburgers. They should make the chips look like colorful Morgellons threads. The rest of us will act like they're making the whole thing up.

Do you understand that that exercising rights does not depend on the cash in your pocket?

I'd be glad to go along with voter id when gun owners id's are logged and recorded also.

Do I really need to repeat myself?

Let's keep as much control away from the federal government as possible.

You are dismissed.

Mycroft is that really you or is someone else using your identity?

Can the government require you to have an ID to exercise your rights?

The answer isn’t so simple. Most rights are for any person (in the US?) while others (such as voting) are limited to only adult US citizens.

All the more reason to have a national ID…

All the more reason to have a national ID…

OK, but would that national (federal?) ID replace needing a valid, state issued, photo ID or simply be another thing folks must carry around?
