The Sci-Fi movie "Elysium" reportedly gives a poor image to the 1%, portraying the conflict between the Haves and Have Nots in high tech images. Can the OWS crowd rally to some meaningful, specific purpose rather than continue their vague pointless complaining? Can Hollywood's wide screen images bring the OWS to become Rebels WITH a cause?

Unlikely. In order to lead a group to accomplish great things, there has to be a bit of substance and character to the membership... and that has not yet been seen amongst OWS.

If the Contract from America was a bland political manifesto with some small number of actually possible policy goals, then the OWS might as well have been some kid's utopia.

They have a lot of work to do, and that involves actively engaging in politics and sacrificing your ideas and even principles to get a small measure of what you want.

The OWS is strictly incapable of doing that, even when they figure out their fall & winter fallout problems.

Very well said.

The OWS folks seemed to me to be a small group of well meaning ne'er-do-wells surrounded by a larger group of easily led conspiracy theorists who really should seek medical assistance with a group of political extremist industry types (the outliers of the progressive movement, civil rights industrialists, etc.) that all took advantage of the core group to advance their profitability for their particular agenda. Which made the entire movement, to serious and wholly, well rounded, educated people, a ridiculous and sad circus to watch.

weirder things have happened....

but really, the OWS folks.. occupiers.. will need to change their name and do away with anything remotely connected to OWS

why?... because they ruined their own movement by being animals, malcontents, criminals, and basic assholes.

when the folks in your movement are most known for ****ting in public places, living like filthy animals, having rapists do their crime right there amidst the group of stinky hippies, and battling cops...well, you don't live that **** down

of course, rebranding won't help if they invite the same idiot degenerates to the new movement...

OWS never had a chance because they had no message and no goal and no real issues to resolve. Lots of free time, a willingness to do stupid things, and a problem with authority isn't enough to make a political movement work.
