California is going to turn Red by 2032, and before you laugh, allow me to explain why. Up to this point, California has had tech dominance, which has really driven the economy. Despite this and maybe because of this as well, California has huge portions of people in tough conditions such as homelessness. So Californians have put Progressive extremists into office with the people in tough conditions hoping for government help and the techies doing well hoping to push government social policies. These Progressives have put huge regulatory burdens on the state of California. This is all about to change.

What we are starting to see now is that California is no longer going to have this dominance on technology. The people of California and the government to some extent has already started turning away from blind support of tech companies. Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg have been under a ton of scrutiny, being blamed for Hillary's loss. And frankly, tech companies are going to find that they can make more money by moving to less regulated areas. Amazon is already looking for a place to put another headquarters, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Most people don't realize that California went Red as recently as 1988, and up until 1992, California was confidently Red outside of 1964. You can go all the way back to the early 1950's where California was going confidently Red. There is still a lot of Republican support in California. Hillary Clinton only got 61.6% of the vote. So to think that California could flip back Republican is not that far-fetched. And once the tech companies start moving out, California is going to go through a lot of pain, that's going to create a lot of skepticism of Progressive extremism, and that's going to flip California Red. For those laughing, you can laugh, but just watch and learn.

Will Red survive Trump is the question!

California is getting more blue. Tech is not going anywhere and it's not the reason California is blue.

I would worry more that Texas will turn blue. It almost elected a Democrat for Senator. It's becoming more Hispanic. The cities are getting bigger. It's only a matter of time before Texas goes Blue.

And countries become more and more progressive over time. Just look at Europe and you can see the future of the United States.

But keep dreaming of a red California if it makes you feel good. The data is against this.

I don't see it. California is a bastion of liberal social values, embraces green energy and is less affected by GOP gerrymandering and voter suppression; it has a high proportion of minorities and relatively high education levels; is less religious and more tolerant; high engagement with countries outside the US. It also suffers from the environmental effects of climate change such as drought and wildfires putting it at the forefront of environmental issues. Tech may go up or down but it'll take more than that for all the other conditions to change. There's little there that characterizes red states.

The only way California goes red is if red goes Cali: change its platform to appeal more to things that get Californians to the polls. God, Gays and Guns ain't gonna cut it.

And as long as the GOP remains shackled by Trumpism, no chance.

Even Californians after the fog of Marijuana smoke clears the air when someone opens a window can still add 2+2 and come up with 4! They know the feckless policies that have been adopted by the left from climate change, tree huggers, sanctuary cities and feckless immigration policies has thrown them into high taxation, high cost of housing, set them up for massive wildfire devastation, and an overwhelming of people addicted to drugs sprawled out on their streets with their used needles. They are also seeing people in an Exodus for years leave with their companies because of the taxes and regulations of doing business in that state.

I am old enough to remember when California was red. It would nice to live long enough to see it turn red once again. It is a beautiful state that is being destroyed by leftist policies.

And coastal makes environmental concerns more apparent.

The fact that management of the state is of horrific quality will be the thing that does it, the left will completely own the failure.

That Mexicans are cultural conservative will help.

I should start a thread about how Mississippi will turn blue by 2024. Same wild fantasies.

Did you "finish" when you wrote this?

We live in unstable turbulent times, as you were supposed to be able to figure out when you noticed that Trump is your President.

STRAP UP!

When you say countries are become more and more Progressive with time, you are conflating the term "Progressive" with the way I used it. It is true that all countries are going to progress over time. It is not true that all countries are going to move towards the Progressive platform with time. In fact, most countries have already moved away from it with the whole Socialism Movements that happened during the World Wars. The USA used to have far more of what you would call Progressivism than it does now.

And yes, some European countries did move towards Progressivism and they are paying dearly for that. Just ask citizens of those countries about the no-go zones, the raped women and children, the harassment, the violence, the exploitation of government programs, etc. These countries such as Sweden and Germany have already admitted they have to turn away from these policies. The Brits voted for Brexit because of it, despite the fact that they still jail citizens for jokingly teaching a pug to do the Nazi salute.

In terms of Texas, I think it will eventually turn Blue as well. Nobody would've believed that a decade ago. And the more the Republican Party feels Texas slipping away, the more they will have to make gains in other areas. California would be a perfect target.

Hahahahaha

What we are starting to see now is that California is no longer going to have this dominance on technology.
Hahahahaha

OK, seriously. Tech is not going to leave California, and it is not going to stop being important or profitable. California also has many other industries, including but not limited to finance, entertainment, arts, and agriculture (including marijuana).

Only a handful of other parts of the US compete against California/Bay Area for tech: Seattle, Austin, NYC, DC/VA, maybe Boston. And this is not a zero-sum game, i.e. Boston enhancing its tech sector doesn't detract from CA, because the tech sector overall is expanding.

1) Amazon's main HQ is in Seattle. Not California.

2) Amazon does have offices in CA. They have no plans to close them.

3) Amazon already decided to open offices in NYC and DC. They didn't plan to put HQ2 in California, because they didn't need another major West Coast office.

4) Most Californians did not, and do not, "blindly" support tech companies. There have been lots of pushback over the years, especially for the impact of techies on housing, gentrification, the cost of living, plus discrimination/sexism in the tech sector.

5) Facebook is a prominent tech company, they have made mistakes, and people are just starting to hold them accountable. That said, that's just a tiny part of what makes the Bay Area so critical to tech. There are tons of tech companies there; the infrastructure is there; the educated employees are there; major tech schools are there (notably Stanford); the venture capitalists are there... The list goes on.

Most people don't realize that California went Red as recently as 1988, and up until 1992, California was confidently Red outside of 1964....
Uh huh

Yeah, thing is.... Some of us know that California used to be very heavily Republican. CA has had numerous Republican governors, including Reagan, Wilson and Schwarzenegger. Orange County was a Republican stronghold for decades.

Some of us also know that California, especially its state government, has spent years changing from Republican to Democrat. I might add that California has taken major steps to prevent gerrymandering, meaning the party in power can't rearrange districts to stay in power.

The Eastern half of CA is Republican... but it's also very low

Hillary Clinton only got 61.6% of the vote.
1) 60% is considered a landslide.
2) Obama got 60% in 2008 and 2012.
3) Kerry got 54%.
4) Gore got 53%.
5) Clinton got 51% in 1996, and 46% in 1992.

I.e. the trend is for more Democratic votes in Presidential elections. Not less.

You also completely missed one of the biggest changes, which is that the minority population (especially Hispanics and Asians) in California is growing, and Republicans are completely burning their bridges with minorities. Those of us who know the history of California politics know that xenophobic anti-immigrant moves cost Republicans dearly -- Pete Wilson's enthusiasm for Prop 187 destroyed his political career, and severely damaged California's Republican party.

It didn't have to be that way. However, Trump has basically torched the minority vote for Republicans, and those demographic trends are not going to reverse by 2032.

So to think that California could flip back Republican is not that far-fetched.
Flip in the next 14 years? That's not just far-fetched, it's outright ludicrous.

Could it happen in the next 40 or 50 years? Well, maybe. Lots can happen in 40 years. Even electing a Republican governor some time in the next 14 years is possible. But flipping from Democratic to Republican? Highly unlikely.

You wanna know what crazy flip is more likely to happen in the next 14 years? Texas is turning purple. Again, a big factor there is demographic; the minority (mostly Hispanic) population of Texas is growing, and slowly starting to vote. In Presidential elections, Democrats used to only get 37% or so of the vote; now, it's in the 40s. Beto O'Rourke was only 2.6% behind Cruz in the 2018 midterms.

The chances that the majority of Texans will vote for a Democratic President are far, far better than a majority of Californians voting for a Republican President by 2032.

No. that is exactly what it means.

Your little "socialism" dig is what is not meant by progressiveness moving forward.

But after Trump builds the wall and deports them all, it won't matter.

Why is trump wasting his time with this wall? He should do what his followers really want. Round up all the hispanics and instead of deporting them - just send them to Poland. Poland has a far right president now. I am sure he will re-open the camps to please his hero trump.

Governor Abbot won by over ten points. Cruz is a horrible candidate who had a massive fundraising disadvantage and a somewhat likable, as long as fleeing car crashes isn’t a problem for you, so if you think about it, that was an exception. Republicans did far better in every other office

trump may be 'president' of the USA but we all know who is really running the country. That Russian guy who is still waiting for his $50 million penthouse that trump promised him . trump towers in Moscow will be the best, biggest, apartment block in the whole world. And best of all - it will have only the richest and whitest people living there.

No one in American politics has ever remotely suggested putting latinos in death camps, ever. Period. To claim such a thing is evil.

You have completely missed the point, which is to be expected based upon what I have seen out of you, as I am pretty sure I have mentioned to you before.
