California: Newsom looks to punish Oil Companies for making money

Well, your post attacked 'grandstanding' and assigning the work to others. I simply pointed some examples where just that was done and where epic fails were the result of the Head Fred keeping the planning to himself....

No doubt the oil companies will try and defend record profits. Yet another outright lie to tRump's America First blather. He should have decoupled our oil companies here in the USofA from the oil cartel price fixing schemes.... ✌️

I’m not saying that it was a bad idea. I’m simply saying that without defining “excessive profits” it’s totally meaningless.

It’s no different than the Governor saying “I plan to end homelessness in CA” and then telling the CA legislature to try to come up with some way of doing so.

Hmmm so the plan has to have solid parameters before being announced???

Perhaps it is the governor of one of the largest users of gasoline putting the oil companies on notice. In baseball parlance- a brushback pitch... :sneaky:

If you don't care about what I support, feel free to scroll past.
What you support is irrelevant. You are trying to defend California government policy by bringing up diversions that will never be enacted as policy

This sounds like more right-wing lunacy to me.
The State of California is literally banning conventional automobiles and working with activist groups to shut down existing refineries. There is now an astroturf “racial Justice” group in Wilmington trying to shut down a chevron refinery there because “it’s not healthy for us to live next to this refinery where we choose to live and also it’s racist”

Joe Biden literally said the oil industry is racist because black people might live near a refinery

I have no clue why you would even deny this when they are openly saying that they want to end all fossil fuel use

People have been trying to end fossil fuel use for decades. This does not mean they will succeed.

California is trying to curb the excessive price of gas, which is where it is due to extreme greed on the part of big oil and the corporate scum that run it.

Everybody says gas was cheaper under Trump. That is misleading. Gas was cheap because Trump was in business with big oil. Big business tends to attack the public whenever there are Democrats in office, and they do so to piss people off so those people will vote for the republicans that will allow big oil to do whatever it wants to whomever it wants.

This is WHY they are called corporate scum.

Yep, otherwise it’s not a plan its simply a goal.

Perhaps it is the governor of one of the largest users of gasoline putting the oil companies on notice. In baseball parlance- a brushback pitch... :sneaky:

That’s much more likely.

I put out a proposal that would improve the situation.

You people don’t want new production, what are you talking about? The state of California is purposefully shutting down refineries
You people must be confused. 'The State' of California isn't shutting down the refineries. Marathon is converting its Martinez plant to renewable diesel fuel. The Rodeo plant being converted to renewable cooking fuels. These are some of the bigger refineries- why the oil companies choose these plants is a good question. Shutting down or greatly reducing production in 4 refineries for 'maintenance' is seen as the cause for high California prices, not 'The State' purposely shutting down refineries...

I guess Louisiana hates refineries as well, Philip 66 is closing its Belle Chasse refinery. Guess that state hates transportation fuels as well. Shell Oil at St. James is closed after it couldn't be sold. Calcasieu at Lake Charles....

New Mexico hates refineries- Marathon oil is closing its Gallup plant.

To claim the State of California is purposely shutting down refineries is typical Rabid Right BS.... ✌️

Having goals is bad now???

Time will tell... ✌️

Having goals is fine, just don’t call them plans. For example: was TrumpCare (medical care insurance which would cost less and cover everyone) ‘coming soon’ a goal or a plan?

You seem to have gone from broad generalizations to a very anal definition. Who determines when a goal becomes a plan??

tRumpcare- neither fish or fowl but yet another fantasy con from the Orange Buffoon... ✌️

That (bolded above) is precisely my point. Trump was grandstanding and announcing a TrumpCare plan which didn’t exist. The problem appears to be that you hold Newsom and Trump to entirely different standards.

Riiiiiiight.

I've been meaning to talk to you about this bridge I have for sale...
The price is set at the Chicago mercantile exchange by commodities trading

Striving to be the Greg Abbot and Ron DeSantis of the Democratic Party is certainly a choice.

I'm not in the oil business, but it seems to me they were doing fine when the price of gas was about half what it is now.
They weren't doing fine when COVID crashed the prices. They lost billions.

In fact, in 2020 the five integrated supermajors (i.e., “Big Oil”) – ExxonMobil, BP, Shell, Chevron, and Total – lost $76 billion.

I want you and/or Gruesome to show me proof of price gouging. And NOT opinions either.

That’s not going to happen. Those who have convinced themselves that inflation and “fossil fuel” price increases are caused by corporate greed rely on their ‘gut instinct’ alone.

Regulate gasoline and diesel like we do public utilities. Socialism will serve us well imo.

And the oil producers getting together and deciding to cut production has nothing to do with this?

Now about that bridge...

We bailed them out to the tune of billions as well.
