So California's economy is officially kicking ass.......

California outpacing U.S. on job growth, unemployment falls to 5.3% - LA Times

What are right wing nuts going to do now that virtually every liberal state's economy is better than virtually every conservative states?

Robert Reich said:
Conservatives are fond of dumping on California – claiming its high tax rates, high minimum wage, and stiff environmental rules are killing jobs. California’s own business-led Chamber of Commerce habitually labels laws that emerge from Sacramento “job killers.”
Well, it turns out California is leading the nation in the rate of job growth. Why? Because those so-called “job killers” are actually good for the state – public investments that improve overall productivity, a minimum wage that puts more money into the pockets of people who will spend it, and environmental laws that make the state an even more desirable place to live.
So next time you hear that high taxes, high minimum wages, and high environmental rules slow job growth, know the facts.

Well, at least California is not cutting into basic services like Kansas and Louisiana are going to end up doing.

I guess you've never heard of the state of Texas?

EDITfull-040416-768x476.jpg

Not only is California losing its human capital, it’s also being drained of its businesses. Carl’s Jr. is leading the most recent wave out of the state. Two years ago it was Toyota, which said it was relocating “substantial parts” of its U.S. headquarters from Torrance, Calif., to suburban Dallas. In the last decade, as many as 9,000 businesses have fled the state.

This is why.

The American Legislative Exchange Council says that California has the fourth-highest tax burden in the country. The state’s top marginal income tax rate ranks dead last in the country, says ALEC, and its top marginal corporate rate is not much better (40th). Its personal income tax progressivity is last.

ALEC also reports that California’s civil court system is among the worst and ranks 44th in economic outlook. Both of these facts are demoralizing for businesses.

Carls Jr moved to Texas. Yes, we know that Texas leads the way in fast food service industry. That doesn't disprove the OP. Nor does the alleged "brain drain" of people chasing the Carls Jr type jobs. California is laying the groundwork for higher paying environmental and professional jobs into the future. It will only fail if it cuts education like conservative Kansas has done.

While I would not call our conservative friends and fellow members "nuts", they often will point to nearby Texas - ignoring the state's dismal H.S. dropout rates, literacy stats, and below average wages, while not mentioning it profits from it's natural abundance of fossil fuel and from it's position as being the profiteer of the jobs & manufacturing that have been shipped across the southern border from NAFTA forward. :(

Apparently you've never heard of China or Mexico, because the jobs are supposedly leaving the U.S. to go to those countries for the same reasons they're leaving California to go to Texas. Would you like to live in Mexico or China? The good news is that for every ****ty job that California sends to Texas, they create about two more better paying jobs that people actually want.

You see the point of this thread here is that whenever idiotic conservatives try and claim liberal economics don't work you compare two states....Texas vs California as if that proves you right meanwhile you ignore the reality that every other liberal state is absolutely destroying almost every other conservative states. You have one example. That's it. In statistics we call that an outlier, and this article proves it by demonstrating that in fact California is actually doing way better than the rest of the country economically, and it's projected to blow past Texas in the next few years. Basically California went down the tubes for a while for two reasons. 1.) Republican Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger ran it into the ground. 2.) Tourism and Entertainment suffer significantly during recessions. Now that they have Democrat Gov. Jerry Brown and the economy is coming back, California is once again dominating Texas.

To say California is losing jobs to Texas is like saying your hair is losing dandruff to your shoulders. California doesn't want those jobs, they're creating thousands of better ones every day.

let's not get started on another "supply side" vs. "demand side" thread. Both schools have situations in which favor using more of one or the other. in the 80s we had relatively more demand, so it made sense to cater to the producers to get them to produce more for us to consume. These days, we're not consuming as much, so it doesn't make sense to continue to cater to producers to produce more as much as it makes sense to cater to consumers.

The basics of the stuff ain't rocket science.
