High School Teacher On Leave After Questioning School Shooting Walkout « CBS Sacramento

She's been placed on leave by her HR department:

All the school system said about it was:

“A Rocklin High School teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave due to several complaints from parents and students involving the teacher’s communications regarding today’s student-led civic engagement activities.”

The gist of her point:

“If you’re going to allow students to walk up and get out of class without penalty then you have to allow any group of students that wants to protest,” she said.

For some reason, that upset up people, and prompted the school to take action against her.

I came across this as I was viewing my Facebook feed, where a lot of people, including teachers and school administrators, were talking about how "proud" they were of these students for standing up for what they believe in, and I was wondering if they'd be equally as proud if the students were walking out for something they disagreed with, like, say, for a pro-life rally.

In Rocklin, CA, anyway, doesn't look like it.

I caught it on a talk show.

The point was that if you let students leave the school for this, you have to let them leave for other causes. That makes sense to me. Abortion. The teacher is in trouble for broaching the subject of "other" pro - testable things. That is what got her in trouble. She committed an "opinion crime".

The question seems to be is who is running the schools. Well we all know the answer to that. The public unions and the Teacher's union produce a river of money for the Democrats in California. The public unions say "jump". Elected officials ask "how high".

The orders appear to have come from upper management to let the students be AstroTurf on behalf of a democrat cause de celebre.

Progressives are such hypocrites. They wail against "gun violence" and the NRA ("Hey, hey, NRA, how many children did you kill today?") but support aborting the unborn by the tens of millions. 17 minutes wouldn't be enough to protest that. You might as well shut the schools down forever.

I was watching a video of a Jordan Peterson's Queen's University Talk and this thread reminded me of a Chinese student making a comment about comparing current student activism, like the SJW activists trying to disrupt the assembly, and the Maoist student "Cultural Revolution."

You can find the video here and the comments in question and Peterson's response starts at 1:02:40.

My point being that we may be seeing the rise of "weaponizing" student's, by encouraging them to walk out of schools in protest to whatever issue is the flavor of the moment for the activist elements of society.

Will the schools encourage activism for those issues they agree with and discourage it for those issues they don't?

Will we see "marches" for all sorts of causes by school students, with or without school sanction, from now on after encouraging this particular event?

That's all this teacher was trying to question, and I think it is a valid one.

How dare ye question the Liberal Agenda!

Standing up for justice has it's consequences these days...

This sounds like fake News put out by Russian trolls to get Right Wingers all fired up....Gee...California-Public Schools-outrage.....So easy to fire up the trump lovers

I don't know where the conservatives are getting the idea that all ideas are equal, but it's certainly funny. Students should be encouraged to act and engage on issues that affect them. Gun control is one, abortion isn't. Whether protesting an issue is in the students interest should be left up to the school to decide, the idea that it's all or nothing is just stupid.

If the students are only willing to walk out in protest if there are no consequences and only if the school and teachers approve then it isn't much of a walk out or a protest. If you are only willing to stand up for something if it is convenient and without penalty then you don't really believe too strongly in it. This teachers opinion shouldn't matter to them at all.

Everyone are hypocrites.
The GOP embraced Roy Moore, so there you go.
Trump is fond of white supremacists, and hates people who aren't white.
There is plenty of hypocrisy to go around.

Really?

You don't think abortion is an issue for anyone biologically capable of producing a child? So all those 13 to 17 year-olds who are having sex whether mom, or dad, or Reverend SoandSo object, should be indifferent to abortion issues?

Who decides what "kids" should be concerned about?

I think that was the issue the OP's teacher was talking about.

Your claim is patently false. In any case, what does it have to do with the thread topic? Please connect the dots.

So there's no teen pregnancy now?

Only for Trump Muppets. It has been out publicly shown to be true.

By their logic if a kid just REALLY doesnt want to go to school they should just stop going to school. Then their parents will have to pay for a babysitter and the non-conformists will ween themselves out of our struggling economy. /sarcasm

(although i do think general knowlege should be taught for only half of school time and other half is learning different trade skills to see what the student is good at, not all students have a dad to teach them how to fix a lawnmower or build a shack to code.)

The GOP is so ****ed and they should be scared because when these kids soon vote, It sure the hell ain’t going to be Republican.

Thanks for starting a topic about this. I hope the story continues to spread.
I'm curious to see how it's handled.
So far, not well.
