The accused has been accused of plotting to blow up gas stations and poison reservoirs. His lawyers have stated that torture was used to get him to give a false confession, and want testimony as to what forms of torture were used to extract the false confession.
Now here is the rub. The CIA admits using harsh techniques to extract the confession, but is telling the court that its methods should be kept secret to protect national security.
National security or an attempt to keep its own personnel from being indicted for war crimes? That is the question, and the American people have the right to know.
