Whether one believes this theory or not is immaterial.
He has the right to believe in whatever he so desires, he also has the right to write down his beliefs, assuming he can either publish or get someone else to publish his writings, he also has that as his right.
So what gives his employer the right to place him on paid leave while it considers the reaction to that which he believes?
He is not attempting to indoctrinate his students.
