Do you believe Bush? I don't, Bush and Armitage probably shared a laugh afterwards when informed of the harsh threat Armitage had just issued to Pakistan on behalf of the Bush administration immediately after 9/11.

the Bush administration threatened to bomb his country "back to the Stone Age" if Pakistan did not help in the U.S. war on terrorism.

Yes, that sounds very much like something the Bush administration would threaten someone with back then.

How sad!

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Friday said he was "taken aback" by a report that a U.S. official threatened the United States would attack Pakistan if it did not help immediately after 9/11.

Bush made the remarks at a White House news conference with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, thanking the U.S. ally for his role in the war on terror.

The Pakistan president has told CBS News that -- immediately following the September 11, 2001, attacks -- the Bush administration threatened to bomb his country "back to the Stone Age" if Pakistan did not help in the U.S. war on terrorism.

Bush said he first heard of the alleged threat "in the newspaper today." (Watch as Bush says he's unaware of any such conversation -- 1:56)

"I was taken aback by the harshness of the words," he said...

Wait......so the President of Pakistan, (currently in the process of publishing his memoirs), reportedly claims that his intelligence director told him that Armitage said that the US threatened to bomb Pakistan if they didn't cooperate after 9/11.

Bush says this never happened.

Armitage, the person in question (who was one of the most vocal critics of the Iraq War) also confirms that this never happened.

Furthermore, he says he did not even have the authority to make such a statement even if he had desired to do so, which he did not.

Hmmmmmmmmm........

I don't have the authority to do most of the stuff I do at work, I still do it.

But you do it most likely because you want to.

I don't really see someone who is not ordered to do something, who is not authorized to do something, and does not WANT to do something, doing said thing.

I can however, see a person who has a book about to be published and is looking for some publicity conflating a few statements to imply something mildly controversial.

This isn't some celebrity or politician pushing his about to be published book, nor is it some publicity stunt, this is the President of Pakistan for God's sake and I doubt that Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is hardly looking for publicity for his book.

This is a serious charge and I'm sure Musharraf is politely trying to tell President Bush to cool it with all this talk about invading Pakistan (no matter what) on behalf of Bush's effort to pursue bin-Laden late in this election year.

You're right, it's much more likely that both Bush and Armitage are lying, despite there being absolutely no evidence to the contrary.

No evidence, just the word of the President of Pakistan.

How sad that you do not think countries should help in the war on terror.

I think it says a lot about you that you're taking second hand evidence from the President/Dictator of Pakistan (who doesnt even claim to have heard it himself) over the word of both President Bush and Richard Armitage.

sadly, Bush Derangement Syndrome is rampant and Bush haters will believe just about any source that contradicts or insults Bush

Just because you are POTUS doesn't mean that you cannot be a liar and a weasel and Bush in my humble is both, millions upon millions of Americans and people worldwide agree.

Armitage? Isn't he involved or was involved in some scandal?

President Bush is a fool and I resent that fact because Bush is destroying much of our goodwill world-wide with his "cowboy-mentality" and his ignorance. President Bush has set back our good relations with the civilized world, oh about 20 30 years. Bush will go down as one of our worst Presidents ever, ever!

So yes, I believe the President of Pakistan over President Bush anyday and in a heartbeat!

And with one post, you've smoothly moved yourself onto the list of people whose opinions mean absolutely nothing to me. Good day, sir.:2wave:

Good day sir?

Does that mean that you are finished with me? Or that it is just a good day? Does it mean that it won't be a good day until I leave or that it is a 'day' to be good on?

Imagine... to live to be "good day'd" by the likes of a person such as yourself as if I were selling 'goods', door to door!

LOL...and I love it!

That's freaking right! Is this supposed to be something that makes me like Bush less 'cause I gotta tell ya it makes me sorta proud.

Who cares what was said after 9/11. I'll go as far as saying we should have bombed both Afghanistan and Pakistan back into the Stone Age. A couple targeted nuclear strikes would have killed Bin Laden and God knows how many key terrorist leaders. If any Arab power like Iran gets mouthy...nuke them too. This is a world war and people are denying it. The only way to win is to destroy your enemy before he destroys you.

Kill them all.

Yes, so to defeat your enemy, you become your enemy. Sounds like conservatism to me.

War is war. You kill the enemy before he kills you. Iran has threatened Israel and the US...if I were President I would bomb them by mornings light.

Like I said, you support becoiming the enemy. You are more of a threat than terrorism itself.

Look...somebody has to have some guts. If the Democrats of today were running the show in WWII they would have been too freakin' sissified to drop the bomb on Japan. They wouldn't have had the guts to carpet bomb entire cities in Europe. You win a war quickly by absolutely destroying your enemy...quickly. It's inhumane to drag a conflict out over an entire generation.

I do not believe Armitage said that. Colin Powell's Chief of Staff, Larry Wilkerson, was interviewed last night on Keith Olbermann. He has been a harsh critic of the Bush Administration since he and Powell left the State Dept. (and Powell and his friendship ended because of Wilkerson's attacks). Anyway, Wilkerson said he didn't believe it for a minute. I trust his opinion because of his past criticism with this administration.

Also, watching Armitage answer questions from a reporter about this incident, I thought he exuded honesty in denying such allegation.

I thought Bush was funny when the Prez of Pakistan said he couldn't say anything because the book was being published shortly and Bush said, "In other words, buy the book." LOL

Countries were put on notice from the beginning, you are with us, or against us.

nothing wrong with telling a country, hey, either be with us, or you just might get your arse kicked.

of course, thats just too harsh for most liberals to deal with.

He's unnamed. It's allegedly the Pakistani "intelligence director."

What I meant was who was suppose to have told HIM. Who in the administration supposedly made that comment. Or is this an unamed source telling an unamed source.

Oh, sorry. He claims it was armitage who told him. Armitage flat out denies it.
