Time for more fear mongering, folks. Bush is holding a news conference at this time, and is fighting the Senate for the right to torture, and to ignore the Geneva conventions. What is he using to justify this? An argument that terrorists will strike the United States again. Spoken like a true Machiavellian Communist.

Article is here.

Bush said, "I wish I could tell the American people, 'don't worry about it.' They're not coming again. But they are coming again."

Assuming this is true, it is an explicit admission that after 5 years, 2 wars, scores of thousands dead and hundreds of thousands maimed, and hundreds and hundreds of billions spent, his "war on terror" is a failure.

Wasnt that long ago that Bush was telling us that we are all safer.

Geez, George Orwell is having a wet dream right now.

Aren't there some elections coming up?

I believe him, since the OKC bombing in 1995, 60, yes SIXTY terrorist plots were caught before hatched. No, not Muslims, but non-Muslims--those who are white and usually claim the religion of "christian."

A draft internal document from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that was obtained this spring by The Congressional Quarterly lists the only serious domestic terrorist threats as radical animal rights and environmental groups like the Animal Liberation Front and the Earth Liberation Front. But for all the property damage they have wreaked, eco-radicals have killed no one — something that most definitely cannot be said of the white supremacists and others who people the American radical right.

In the 10 years since the April 19, 1995, bombing in Oklahoma City, in fact, the radical right has produced some 60 terrorist plots. These have included plans to bomb or burn government buildings, banks, refineries, utilities, clinics, synagogues, mosques, memorials and bridges; to assassinate police officers, judges, politicians, civil rights figures and others; to rob banks, armored cars and other criminals; and to amass illegal machine guns, missiles, explosives, and biological and chemical weapons. What follows is a list of key right-wing plots of the last 10 years.
http://www.splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/article.jsp?pid=903 Kinda strange that were not profiling white people with extreme religious views and giving them the same kinda treatment as "potential" Muslim terrorists.

I heard the conference. I agree the president did not show extreme patience for some of the nonsensical BS from the press core today.

He did called for clarification of article 3 and rightfully so.
He once again clarified the links between Iraq terrorism and Al Qaeda as well.

U.S. to follow Geneva treaty for detainees

Did you know the prisoners in AG are begging for the Americans to come back and take over now right?

Iraqis take over Abu Ghraib

"we want the Americans to come back'," he said."

Tell me about it. A few years ago, some people from the Klan in East Texas got busted with a sodium cynanide bomb they had made, which was capable of killing thousands of people.

Oh really?
How many successful islamic attacks has the US soil weathered in the last 5 years?
foiled embassy attack in Damascus

Oh, the attacks in progress were stopped or defeated thats right.
A complete overhaul in cooperation between intel agencies and a massive attack on terrorist funding had a significant impact there.

There is still much to do.

Since in every case you cited they were caught isnt that a good thing?

"a list of key right-wing plots of the last 10 years." all caught, arrested, or currently serving time.

Yeah, what's wrong with Bush?? He might as well have said that cars are safer now, but it's still possible to die in a car wreck. What a moron!

Sounds like we are safer doesn't it?? All have been caught.

Hmm, wonder how these "white people" were caught if the government is only looking for Muslims??

I don't get that line of thought either. Cars can be safer and you can still die in a car wreck. How is that moronic? Clearly you were being sarcastic, yes?

Giving birth to babies is safer and you can still die giving birth. There is nothing wrong, moronic, or illogical about such statements.

Awwww. Poor wittle Bushy Wushy. He is upset because he wants to torture detainees and some of his fellow republicans won't let him. Let's see. Who am I going to give more credibility to?

George Bush: no service in a war.

John Warner: served in World War II and the Korean Conflict and Under Secretary of the Navy during Vietnam.

John McCain: Prisoner of war for 5 1/2 years where he was tortured by the Vietnamese and beaten until unconsciousness.

Lindsey Graham: served as a Judge Advocate during the Persian Gulf.

Yeah, the latter three. That's to whom I am going to give more credibility.

Bush is like the little boy who cried wolf. No one believes his fear mongering anymore.

Did you even hear the press conference?
Because you are talking like you did not.

Yes, I was being VERY sarcastic.

The posters above claim that it is hypocrisy for Bush to claim terrorists will strike us again and at the same time we have been safer for the last five years.

I was pointing out THEIR hypocrisy.

I read front page of the MSNBC website. How is what I said not relevant?

Oh, Because you completely ignored the focus of the press conference and misrepresented the tone and sentences.

What's wrong with me going out on a little tangent? I am disgusted with Bush and this whole thing about wanting to be able to torture detainees. I am so proud of Colin Powell for going against the administration.

Yeah really. We could have avoided one war, avoided tens of thousands of deaths, and at the least be able to say: "I wish I could tell the American people, 'don't worry about it.' They're not coming again. But they are coming again"

I love ya aps but I must say I think your rabid hatred of Bush along with your blinding love and devotion for the NYT has finally driven you mad. Is that stuff hanging from your lip froth or drool? You at least use to deliver some wit and punch but lately it's all giddiness and hysteria.

hmmm the elections are coming I can feel it in the air.

Baloney

Significant Terrorist Attacks Against the United

To make that statement you have to discount history for decades.

I promise you one thing.
The rabid attitude will not end with the elections regardless of what happens. Certain people will always carry parachutes so they can freefall off the left or right wing.
Only the sanity of the moderates can hold us together.

Well, I am sorry you feel that way. I haven't been able to have an intelligent debate in quite some time on this message board with a republican/conservative. So if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
