I really hope that George Bush means this. If you can see the picture of Bush and Cheney shaking Reid and Durbin's hands, it's great. The smile on Bush and Cheney's faces seem genuine, and I love the "blue tie" comment.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Reaching out to newly ascendant Democrats for a second day, President Bush promised bipartisan cooperation to the Senate's top Democrats on Friday.

Bush called Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and the Senate's No. 2 Democrat, Dick Durbin, to the Oval Office for about 45 minutes of discussions. Afterward, they pledged to put bitter campaign disputes aside and work together. . . .

Looking for common ground, Bush noted that both he and Reid hail from the plainspoken West. ''We tend to speak the same language,'' the president said.

Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, appreciatively observed that both Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney had chosen blue ties -- perhaps in honor of the Democratic victory on Tuesday?

''I was hoping you would notice that,'' said Bush.

I think Bush does sincerely mean it. He's too astute a politician to know that nothing will get done without cooperation.

Of course Cheney is just a grumpy old fart who just lost his best friend in Rummy. I wonder if Cheney will step down for "health reasons" before the end of his term, setting the way for VP Allen? Santorum?

He kind of has to now.

Hmm maybe George Bush isn't such a bad guy after all, and maybe he won't end up being a lame duck.

"Pledges Bipartisan Cooperation", now where have I heard this before? Oh yeah, 2000. Why exactly should we believe him now, when he has already made this statement once and shown it to be a lie.

Because, the 110th congress is infiltrated with conservative dems and moderates. So he'll have little trouble with them.

So we should only belive his word when it suits his cause and helps him? Otherwise his word is useless? Okay, I'll make a note of that.

Yes.
Heh, you make it sound like thats unusual.

I just hope this is "Real" Bi-partisanship.

Bipartisanship is both sides giving and taking to come to a compromise that they both can accept. Bipartisanship is not one side demanding the other go along with everything they say, and if they don't claiming the person isn't "Bipartisan"

Not many choices

A) bipartisan cooperation

B) sit in the corner and hold breath
