Just as the hearings get started on the firing of several prosecutors, the White House has caved in, and Bush says he will not oppose the reversal of the rule that was sneaked into the Patriot Act allowing the replacement of prosecutors without Congressional oversight.

As to the attorneys which were replaced by the Bush administration, all had originally been appointed by Bush, all had excellent performance reviews, but all were fired for political reasons. One was replaced because he was continuing to pursue more indictments stemming from the Randy Cunningham case. Another was fired for not bowing to pressure to bring indictments against a state Democratic Congressman before last year's elections, and this action has now compromised the case against the Democrat, who may end up walking away from prosecution. Yet another was fired to make way for a Karl Rove crony.

With all the publicity over the mass political firings, and what many see as an abuse of the rule set into the Patriot Act, it looks like this rule is now toast.

I was stunned when I saw this article on the front of the Washington Post. We know how much Bush does not like to compromise. What it says to me is that he (well, Gonzales) knows that they cannot refute the reports by these very competent, credible US Attorneys. I hope Domenici and Wilson get in trouble for calling Iglesias. They violated ethics laws in doing so. Tsk tsk

There was a study done not long ago, that showed 80% of all investigations into political corruption had targeted democrats after the Bush administration came to power. So this aint that big a shocker really, just shows how bad the Bush administration has been.
