Yea, never made much sense to me why Buddha, the symbol of self-discipline and purging of material desires, is always depicted as ridiculously overweight. Didn't he fast to attain enlightenment?

ya Budda is depicted in two different ways the skinny budda representing the hard path to enlightenment and the fat budda he is fat in that it symbolizes the happiness and contentment of enlightenment.

The fat buddha is a Hotai buddha, supposedly, I believe a reincarnation of Buddha.
