Brussels triggers rule of law mechanism for very first time against Hungary

There are certain rules to being an EU member, but EU lacks the means to force a member state that breaks the rules to obey. Neither does the EU has any means to exclude a member state unless the state in question decide to leave by themselves (see Brexit). However what the EU can do is deny funding to a state that is in violation of the rules. Hungary is dependent on EU funding (and also Orban uses it for his personal vanity projects). This will be interesting, Poland is probably not far behind and might get the same treatment soon.
