" the Ukrainian ministry of defense said traffic through the strait had been blocked by a tanker anchored near the Kerch Strait bridge. Russian state news agency TASS, quoting Alexei Volkov, the general director of the Crimean seaports, said traffic through the strait had been closed for security purposes.

The incident came amid a confrontation at sea between Ukrainian and Russian vessels. According to the Ukrainian navy, the naval vessels Berdyansk,Nikopol and Yani Kapu were carrying out a planned transfer from the port of Odessa to the port of Mariupol on the Azov Sea. "

Muscovy is a pirate state , officially

"United Nations General Assembly Resolution 68/262
was adopted on March 27, 2014 by the sixty-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly in response to the Russian annexation of Crimea and entitled "Territorial integrity of Ukraine". The non-binding resolution, which was supported by 100 United Nations member states, affirmed the General Assembly's commitment to the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and underscored the invalidity of the 2014 Crimean referendum. ...

The resolution was introduced by Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine.[1] The adoption of the resolution was preceded by the unsuccessful attempts of the United Nations Security Council, which convened seven sessions to address the Crimean crisis, only to face a Russian veto[2] of draft resolution S/2014/189,[3] sponsored by 42 countries.

The UN General Assembly also passed the related Resolution 71/205 in December 2016, entitled "Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine)".[4][5"

Russia, Ukraine Trade Blame Over Naval Incident Near Crimea

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia and Ukraine traded accusations over an incident at sea Sunday near the disputed Crimean Peninsula, increasing tensions between both countries and prompting Moscow to block passage through the Kerch Strait. The Kerch Strait is a narrow body of water nestled between Crimea and the Russian mainland.

Russia has not given any indication of how long it will keep the strait blocked off, but a long-term closure to civilian traffic would amount to an economic blockade of Ukrainian cities on the Azov coast. And Russia's Black Sea Fleet greatly outmatches the Ukrainian navy. Though a 2003 treaty designates the Kerch Strait and Sea of Azov as shared territorial waters, Russia has been asserting greater control over the passage since 2015.

Dmitry Kiselyov, a commentator on the state-controlled Rossiya channel, told viewers of his Sunday evening news program that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko — encouraged by the U.S. — is looking to pick a fight with Russia in the Black Sea. The talk show host also said that the U.S. talked Poroshenko into staging a provocation against Russia as a means to disrupt the upcoming meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump at this week's Group of 20 summit in Argentina.

Let's see if Putin and Trump have another secret meeting in Argentina next week, same as they did in Helsinki. Then keep everything secret afterward, between the two only. After all a servant never rats on his master.

The oil from everyone but Iraq and Georgia goes to China. The gas to Europe.

SIMFEROPOL, November 25. /TASS/. Western countries are behind the provocation of Ukrainian warships in the Black Sea, which intruded into Russia’s territorial waters, head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov said on Sunday.

"Today, Ukrainian warships illegally crossed Russia’s border and blatantly violated norms of international law. I am sure Western patrons of the Kiev regime are behind this provocation - it doesn’t look a mere coincidence that European and American politicians have been so concerned over the situation in the Sea of Azov in the recent months. Ukraine, as a country stripped of sovereignty and being under external governance, is an instrument for whipping up international tensions," he wrote on his Facebook account.

Earlier on Sunday, the Russian Federal Security Service’s Border Service in Crimea reported that three Ukrainian warships had illegally crossed Russia’s state border entering its territorial waters, and were carrying out dangerous maneuvers. The ships are heading to the Kerch Strait. The Border Service is taking measures to ensure safe navigation and regulate the movement of ships in the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait. Director General of Crimea’s seaports, Alexei Volkov, told TASS that the Kerch Strain has been closed for civil navigation for security considerations.

So the Sea of Asov is now officially Russian?

Ukrainian coastline included?

Which means that Russia alone decides who may enter it and who not?

Well, let's hope nobody decides to close the Bosporus on such premises.

Ukraine could threaten to blow up the bridge, cutting the land route of Russia to and from Crimea.

Poroshenko needs to boost his popularity ahead of the election he is trailing horrifically in. Creating conflict is his only hope.

Let's hope that his western backers put this lunatic back in his box before it's too late. Remember, the US is happy to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian, and the Europeans being the pathetically weak satellite states that they are will sit back helplessly and watch war and death returning to their continent.

Once naval guns begin firing the bridge becomes a bigger target.

Ukraine accuses Russia of opening fire on some of its ships in Black Sea

KIEV (Reuters) - The Ukrainian navy accused Russia on Sunday of opening fire on some of its ships in the Black Sea, striking one vessel and wounding a crew member.

The Ukrainian navy made the statement on its Facebook page after a day of rising tensions during which Russia stopped three Ukrainian navy vessels from entering the Sea of Azov via the Kerch Strait by placing a huge cargo ship beneath a Russian-controlled bridge.

Apart from this news report by Reuters, RT said Putin has scrambled air force jet fighters.

Ukraine is not in Nato but this is instructive to Nato. It gives a true picture of what Putin is willing to do to a neighbor directly, beyond what he's already done in Ukraine. The question is whether Putin will de-escalate or go OTT and whether the bridge might not survive the encounter. I doubt the Ukraine government will destroy the bridge but no one can say some mysterious group might not take this into its own hands. So there is risk here that needs to be managed yet no one is managing it outside of the two countries involved, nor is anyone beyond the two countries in a position to manage this. That is, to de-escalate.

Move the cargo carrier away from under that bridge----------->problem solved.

In a sense the bill collector is knocking on Putin's door.

Putin hates the bill cause he's sure he can get everything he wants for free.

Putin needs to de-escalate or this could become bigger than what it is. Yet many are egging Putin on to include His Fanboyz.

Tangmo - re the bridge.

Russia is very well aware of the risk of terrorist attacks on it, and has always taken measures to ensure that the supports can't be mined. There are several counter-measures in place. Whatever you're hoping for ........ it;s not happening, and from a human perspective it would be a very bad outcome if it did.

This should be the end of it for the time being as Ukraine is going to the UN Security Council with it.

Russia 'fires at Ukraine ships' in Black Sea after rising tensions off Crimea

Ukraine says Russia has opened fire on its ships in the Black Sea and captured three vessels.

Two sailors have been wounded after a small artillery boat was hit in the strikes, the Ukrainian navy said.

Sky's defence and security correspondent Alistair Bunkall said the Ukrainian president has called an emergency session of his war cabinet in response to the incident.

"Today's dangerous events in the Azov Sea testify that a new front of [Russian] aggression is open," Ukrainian foreign ministry spokeswoman Mariana Betsa said.

"Ukraine [is] calling now for emergency meeting of United Nations Security Council."

Russia - which claims the waters off Crimea after annexing the peninsula in 2014 - accused Ukraine of illegally entering the area and deliberately provoking a conflict. It placed a huge cargo ship beneath the Russian-controlled Kerch Strait Bridge to block Ukrainian boats from access to the sea.

"Their goal is clear - to create a conflict situation in the region," Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said in a statement.

But the Ukrainian navy said Russia had been informed in advance about the planned journey.

In September, the Ukrainian navy accused Russian border guards of "acts of provocation" against its ships taking the same route. Ukraine has increased the number of navy ships and border guard patrols in the Sea of Azov, which is reached via the Kerch Strait between Crimea and Russia.

Kiev says its naval build-up is due to Russia stepping up controls in the area this year and carrying out lengthy checks on commercial shipping. Mariupol is close to the region of eastern Ukraine controlled by Russian-backed separatists in a conflict that has caused at least 10,000 deaths since 2014.

I haven't any doubt Russia has taken protective and preventative measures in constructing the bridge, so you can save your Putin Breath about it. The bridge remains vulnerable however 24/7 which means at any time under any circumstances. I've said the government in Kiev isn't likely to take any action against the bridge itself. How much more territory the government will accept losing is the issue however. The bottom line is that Putin needs to de-escalate.

Well, I think you should perhaps try to see the Russian perspective.

Poroshenko is watching his grip on office falter and needs to ramp up conflict to try to boost his chances. After all, a Tymoshenko regime is going to cost him a lot of money.

This is a conflict that Russia doesn't want, but if Kiev wants to push it too far, there'll only be one big loser. Poroshenko knows this too, which is why he and Washington will try to control escalation. They need it as a propaganda exercise, but they don't want it too hot.

I've been looking at the Russian perspective since Truman was Potus which are my earliest memories so thx anyway.

Putin came out of KGB which you'd know as virtually everyone knows. So there is a continuum there despite the USSR going bust. Putin called it the greatest tragedy of the century.

Once the satellite countries of eastern Europe became free they went with Europe and the West. After all, who wants to continue to be connected to a sh!hole country when the West exists as the alternative. It's the West that gets in Putin's craw and up his backside. The bottom line on Putin and Russia is that they can give it but they can't take it. So Putin is getting what he deserves -- good and hard.
