The Russian Navy rammed and disabled a Ukrainian Navy tugboat.

In addition, the Russians blocked the Sea of Azov at the Kerch Strait (Crimea Bridge.

At the Crimea bridge ... Russia is using a freighter to block the entrance to the Sea of Azov to Ukraine bound vessels. Moscow is testing Ukraine's and the West's resolve to not allow Moscow to restrict maritime shipping on the Sea of Azov.

Russia, Ukraine Trade Blame Over Naval Incident Near Crimea

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia and Ukraine traded accusations over an incident at sea Sunday near the disputed Crimean Peninsula, increasing tensions between both countries and prompting Moscow to block passage through the Kerch Strait. The Kerch Strait is a narrow body of water nestled between Crimea and the Russian mainland.

Russia has not given any indication of how long it will keep the strait blocked off, but a long-term closure to civilian traffic would amount to an economic blockade of Ukrainian cities on the Azov coast. And Russia's Black Sea Fleet greatly outmatches the Ukrainian navy. Though a 2003 treaty designates the Kerch Strait and Sea of Azov as shared territorial waters, Russia has been asserting greater control over the passage since 2015.

Dmitry Kiselyov, a commentator on the state-controlled Rossiya channel, told viewers of his Sunday evening news program that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko — encouraged by the U.S. — is looking to pick a fight with Russia in the Black Sea. The talk show host also said that the U.S. talked Poroshenko into staging a provocation against Russia as a means to disrupt the upcoming meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump at this week's Group of 20 summit in Argentina.

Let's see if Putin and Trump have another secret meeting in Argentina next week, same as they did in Helsinki. Then keep everything secret afterward, between the two only. After all a servant never rats on his master.

The oil from everyone but Iraq and Georgia goes to China. The gas to Europe.

video of attack on Ukrainian ship

Does Russia own it?

Russia doesn't 'own' the Sea, but it is a joint inland sea shared by Russia and Ukraine. None of this was a problem until Ukraine became a hostile state after the CIA orchestrated coup against the democratically elected President.

Russia has a responsibility to protect its territorial waters. The Ukrainian Navy ships failed to co-operate and were acting in a provocative manner.

Poroshenko needs to boost his 8% support. Classic tactics.

I've been looking at the Russian perspective since Truman was Potus which are my earliest memories so thx anyway.

Putin came out of KGB which you'd know as virtually everyone knows. So there is a continuum there despite the USSR going bust. Putin called it the greatest tragedy of the century.

Once the satellite countries of eastern Europe became free they went with Europe and the West. After all, who wants to continue to be connected to a sh!hole country when the West exists as the alternative. It's the West that gets in Putin's craw and up his backside. The bottom line on Putin and Russia is that they can give it but they can't take it. So Putin is getting what he deserves -- good and hard.

:confused::confused:

At the hands of the Ukrainian Navy?

:confused::confused:

At the hands of the Ukrainian Navy?

In general, such as the sanctions for instance.

It's more than obvious the Ukrainian Navy is not up to snuff in many areas, if not all of 'em. I've posted the Russians took three Ukrainian Navy ships so it's obvious I'm talking beyond the present moment. You've gone quite astray on this one but you went astray long ago -- along with the rest of the Right -- in going over to Putin. I'll continue to note that the Right to include Republicans and Rightist Libertarians want the USA to be more like Putin's Russia than the other way around. There are also self-called Independents who are in fact dependent.

Good thingy then Ukraine gave up its nukes eh.

Putin's got plenty of 'em though, even if it's all Russia's got.

Gas station economy it is, with a gdp one-tenth of the USA. That's behind Italy even. They got nuthin over there. Putin's it I'm afraid. That's more than enough for you guys though.

You're obviously another irrational Russia hater.

What is the point of your observation. That the US is much richer? Yes it is. So what?

Russia will always act as an independent sovereign state. Deal with it.

Sanctions?

In what way have they been successful?

Weren't they supposed to modify Russia's behavior?

In your terms, isn't this an example of how they have been a total failure?

Okay, that's the Kremlin version and I'll leave it at that.

So when States of the Southern Black Sea decide their coastline needs protection from the North as well, I guess it'll also be okay to shut the Bosporus to any Russian vessel on its way home from the South. Or NATO, in any desire to protect itself, prevents any Russian vessel from leaving the Black Sea altogether.

Sheesh.

BREAKING: near the Kerch Strait JUCHI ATTACK Ukrainian territory (vessels ) again (1 step from the big war). so whats new? new war , can ulus aford a new war , with thoughts about going down OIL prices (oil- gas 99% of Muscovy )

" the Ukrainian ministry of defense said traffic through the strait had been blocked by a tanker anchored near the Kerch Strait bridge. Russian state news agency TASS, quoting Alexei Volkov, the general director of the Crimean seaports, said traffic through the strait had been closed for security purposes.

The incident came amid a confrontation at sea between Ukrainian and Russian vessels. According to the Ukrainian navy, the naval vessels Berdyansk,Nikopol and Yani Kapu were carrying out a planned transfer from the port of Odessa to the port of Mariupol on the Azov Sea. "

Russian scum, they also flew over a Belgian war ship in the Baltic Sea. It may be time to take it a bit more aggressive with the ffing Russians but we cannot allow Russia to push NATO around.

I merely stated some facts and put 'em in the proper context. I'm the guy dealing with it while the Putin Fanboyz are so desperate their default position it to accuse critics of hate. The accusations are distributed through a mass of threads over the past two years.

Capital is fleeing Russia in record numbers this year. It's the worst year of capital flight since the rubble went south in 2014. The Russian people see nothing of the small and temporary benefit of an increase of oil prices because the money exited Russia as fast as it came in. It's the case anyway that one side keeps Putin on his toes while the other side shines his shoes.

War Hawks are usually people who have no skin in the game, and never had any skin in the game.

Let Europe take care of it if they are so very concerned about the Ukraine and Russia.

President Trump has it in his powers to force any US citizen to sell there Russian stocks or other stocks that have Russian holdings in their assets. That price plunge would force world banks to forclose their loans to these Russian corporations. Forcing anyone buying their oil or gas to use the gold standard.

As I said earlier, Poroshenko has staged a provocation as an election ploy.

Now he's proposing martial law :roll:

He really doesn't want Tymoshenko to replace him.

We ship over 400 tons per year of coal from Lackawanna County, PA now.

But the West says sanctions are designed to change Russia's behavior. In that sense sanctions have failed abysmally ........ yes?

You're implying that sanctions adversely impact ordinary Russians. That is good is it?

Ukraine can just cut their 3.5 million tons import from Russian coal and make up for it from the U S.

That’s 5.039 million tons of coal waifing over Russia every year. That acid rain will putrefy everyone roof shingles.

Let us find out the name of that ship and make sure it is not allowed to dock in any NATO harbor and maybe make it very difficult for them to ship goods from EU harbors. And let's not allow Russian ships to pass through or near NATO waters without sending a ship or plane to make sure they keep out of our water.

But the West says sanctions are designed to change Russia's behavior. In that sense sanctions have failed abysmally ........ yes?

You're inferring what a Putin Fanboy will infer. Trying to transmogrify it into accusations against the West.

The benefit of the small and temporary increase in oil prices went from financier to financier to pay interest on loans and to buy foreign assets where possible. Sanctions are specifically on Putin and his autocrats as you should know but ignore. Autocrats losing money or opportunities is a cost that hits their personal fortunes.

Capital flight this year is where it was in 2014 after having been reduced in the meantime. Sanctions will continue. If the Russian people are being impacted by sanctions they're not showing it. We know your concern is for the people, not for Putin, right? Wrong.

We know the Putin Fanboyz don't want sanctions impacting Putin's behaviors, to make Putin more agreeable to the West. Right? Right. After all, the West is the enemy of Putin and His Fanboyz.

Take a passenger ship, paint it white, with a huge Red Cross on it, and pack it full of gun cotton and ammonium nitrate and send it right at the bridge.
