Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer will travel to Russia tomorrow to meet President Vladimir Putin, an Austrian government spokesperson has said according to the Reuters news agency.

It follows Nehammer's visit to Kyiv on Saturday to met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

...

We've got a little more now on Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer's trip to meet Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday.

"He is going there, having informed Berlin, Brussels and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky" to encourage dialogue, a spokesman for Nehammer said.

Hopefully, Nehammer either kills the guy (he's a former army soldier) - or makes a big scene in front of Putin by engaging in a shouting duel with him, or he convinces Putin to end the aggression (maybe by sending 10.000 Austrian + Swiss troops as a buffer to the Donbass and South, in exchange for a withdrawal of Russia).

How long will the table be?

How long will the table be?

Going to be interesting for sure.

Macron was like 50 meters away ...

Anyway, the butchering has to stop and if Nehammer can do something productive in Moscow tomorrow, it's appreciated.

Word of advice...bring your own bottled water and dont drink the tea....

I wonder how he'll travel to Moscow ...

Airspace is banned. Or are Austrian aircraft allowed to fly into Russia ?

Just not the opposite ?

Or will he fly to Estonia and take the train to Moscow ?

......and buy new underwear in a sealed package before going.

The Austrian leader is, sadly, naive and maybe even arrogant.

First, why would he want to even shake the hand of that Butcher?

Second, the French President has already begged the Butcher many times to see reason -- with no results.

Negotiations? The Butcher considers treaties as just pieces of paper.

Didn't Russia guarantee Ukraine's independence when the latter gave up its nuclear weapons?

Entities like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Xi, et al. respect only one thing: BRUTAL FORCE!

Because the alternative to negotiations is letting the Ukrainians keep getting bombed into oblivion.

Some people believe that "negotiations" mean nothing to that war criminal and butcher (President Biden's words).

Brutal force is the only thing that will make that brute beg for peace.

Russia’s nukes mean “brutal force” isn’t any option.

What is it with European leaders, do they enjoy groveling to Putin and then getting scoffed at and manipulated? I thought only gay British males were into getting spanked by leather clad Burno's?

Hell, the last European leader with balls was a lady, Margaret Thatcher.

The meeting has just ended according to European media.

Austria's Nehammer says he felt a duty to meet Putin so as to leave no stone unturned in seeking end to conflict or at least humanitarian progress for civilians in
Ukraine - statement

How long will the table be?

From the "Kurier", translated into English:

516.285.475

The conversation between Austria's Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Russia's President Vladimir Putin at his residence in Nowo-Ogaryevo lasted 75 minutes - Nehammer said afterwards that it was not a friendly visit. After all, he has just come from Ukraine and has "seen with my own eyes the immeasurable suffering caused by the Russian war of aggression".

There were no photos or media statements with Putin, and that was at Austria's request. Unlike in Kyiv, journalists were not present during this visit either. "It's not about the staging," said Nehammer afterwards. It was important to him to first travel to the affected country and then to the country of the aggressor - and to look Putin straight in the eye.

"Direct, open and hard"

What was the result? Not much hope. The conversation - which was held at a similarly long table as the many other meetings with heads of state and government - was "very direct, open and tough," said Nehammer. Putin's reaction - incidentally, they spoke to an interpreter in the respective national language - was correspondingly defensive, Nehammer said. He spoke of "generally no positive impressions" and "no promising prospects". Putin has "arrived massively in the logic of war" and is acting accordingly.

Putin - in Russia the attack can only be called a "special operation" - said the word war only once and only indirectly. When asked that the war should end soon, Nehammer said Putin replied: "It would be better." Of course, that could mean an escalation as well as a diplomatic solution.
