Help the UK release a terrorist in exchange for drilling. This almost sounds like some conspiracy forum ****.

BP to drill for Libyan oil despite Lockerbie furor - World news - Europe - msnbc.com
BP has admitted that it lobbied the British government over a prisoner transfer deal with Libya in late 2007, but denied playing any role in the actual decision to release al-Megrahi nearly two years later.

Senator Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., also speaking on TODAY, said: "The whole thing has deep circumstantial evidence that points to the fact that there was a trade-off — release the terrorist in exchange for an oil contract."

"It also says that our war on terrorism — this is one of the worst terrorists of the last century — can be traded off for blood money," he added.

Even if there wasn't an agreed exchange, their reason for doing the lobbying is clear. Some people really will do anything for money.

I bet you guys would do the same for a couple billion dollars.

This is nothing new. It's been going on since capitalism started. It is capitalism.

Like it or not, without capitalism, there would be alot more starving and dying people in the world. I could live with it, but I doubt that many people could.

Capitalism is an economic system. Selling out laws for money is a political issue. Capitalism isn't to blame, it's the British government and BP for doing this.

What about all the other countries around the Mediterranean sea and BP springs another leak that takes 2-3 months to fix?

I would tend to agree with you that it was the British Government, but try to think this through.
The present British Government is a coalition of Liberal Democrats (Not too similar to your US Democrats) and the Tory and Unionist party of Great Britain.
This particular Government did not sanction the release of that terrorist.
That terrorist was released by the agreement of the NU-Labor Government of Gordon Brown.
The present Government headed by a David Cameron who actually objected in the British House of Parliament to the then proposed freeing of that Terrorist.
So Gordon Brown and his cohorts were the ones to blame.
BP so far as I can tell did not directly seek this Terrorists release on Compassionate or any other reason.
What they did do was ask for the decision as to whether all 27 Libyan Prisoners held in British Prisons might be sent back to Libya to serve out their sentences in their home country, should Libya have had any British nationals in Libyan Prisons, these might be returned to UK and serve out their sentences in British Prisons.

It should be safer, they won't be using an American rig and crew this time.

Then you would tend to be wrong too. The Scottish Government released him, not the British. Gordon Brown and Co. were as displeased as the Tories, and just as impotent.

Worthwhile trade.
At least UK will get something from this even if it was the Scots who let him out.
