Border Wall: Monument for the People, Not Pols

https://townhall.com/columnists/mic...all-monument-for-the-people-not-pols-n2538730
Profligate politicians have never met a multibillion-dollar infrastructure project they didn't like -- except when it comes to President Donald Trump's border wall.... Think about it.... Boston's Big Dig black hole, the nation's most expensive highway project, burned through $25 billion and was plagued by deadly engineering incompetence, endless cost overruns, leaks, lawsuits and debt.... California's high-speed rail boondoggle is a $100 billion bullet train to nowhere. Gov. Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown promised a 2020 completion date for the miracle transportation system. The latest estimates predict it won't open until at least 2033, and the costs keep rising.
Seattle's ill-fated Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement topped out at $4 billion in local, state and federal funds for a two-mile bored road tunnel that will finally open next month -- nearly four years behind schedule and hundreds of millions of dollars over budget.... What the Big Dig, bullet train boondoggle and Seattle squander all have in common is that political elites, lobbyists and corporate heavy-hitters trampled over grassroots citizen opposition to get their way. Too many government construction projects are built because these publicly subsidized gravy trains reward campaign donors, powerful public employee unions and assorted control freaks in the urban planning and transportation sectors.... Another glaring example? Across the country, voters have repeatedly rejected billion-dollar sports stadium and arena subsidies over the past 30 years -- only to be sabotaged by bipartisan alliances overruling the will of the people. I used to run a watchdog website called "Porkwatch" filled with so many field-of-schemes case studies that I couldn't keep track of them anymore.... Then there are all the tax-funded highways, bridges, museums and other edifices glorifying Beltway swamp creatures.... President Trump's defining battle against the Beltway to fortify our borders -- by concrete, steel, increased manpower, electronic surveillance, all of it -- isn't just about fulfilling a campaign promise. The wall is a necessary monument to sovereignty in a nation clogged with billions of dollars of worthless political monuments to Me, Me, Me.

~~~~~~
Democrats were shocked when Reagan proclaimed "tear down that wall, Mr. Gorbachev", They never wanted the Russians to collapse. Now the Progress Marxist Socialist Democrat Left scream, "you will never build a wall to protect Americans, President Trump".
Funny isn't it, Obama would not have had any problem demanding $36 billion for one of his pet projects Solyndra. After all, he demanded, AND RECEIVED, $800 billion for his un-stimulating stimulus. The stimulus bill that funded Solyndra received no Republican votes in the House and only three in the Senate.
Perhaps President Trump should promote the Wall as a “Shovel Ready Project” and watch Progressive Marxist Socialist Democrat heads explode all over D.C.
The answer is potato.
Uh......do you have any evidence that Democrats didn't want the Soviet Union to collapse?
Other than your typical partisan hackery?
The wall does not protect anyone, by the way. It is nothing more than the Trump cult's wet dream.
When the Democrats and Russians Opposed Reagan
https://www.academia.org/when-the-democrats-and-russians-opposed-reagan/
Accuracy in Media (AIM) raised concerns about the influence of Russian propaganda on the U.S. political process more than four years ago, when Russia Today (RT) television was trying to disrupt the Republican presidential primary. Going further back into history, the Moscow-funded Communist Party USA (CPUSA) was openly advocating the defeat of Republican President Ronald Reagan in 1984.
Then there's the leader of the Dem's at the time the traitorous Sen. Ted Kennedy who actually conspired to give National Security information to Russia's Andropov. Perhaps you're too young to remember facts like the above?
So in other words you have no evidence that Democrats didn't want the USSR to collapse. Noted.
Actually there's much more evidence. All you have to see is the number of card carrying members of the Democratic Socialists of America in Congress and the Senate...
Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)
https://www.dsausa.org/
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States. We believe that working people should run both the economy and society democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few.
of America (DSA) and has attended many socialist fundraisers and events. She is tied to a New York-based non- profit organization called Demos, a progressive group aligned with the Institute for Policy Studies. She was one of a few candidates endorsed by Progressive Democrats of America.
The answer is that Democrats are racist hypocrites...
I'd revise your statement as follows: The answer is 'Democrats' are traitorous, Marxist Socialist globalists as well as racist hypocrites....
California's most densely populated areas are all located along a single route close to the coast. This mirrors another economic powerhouse nation: JAPAN.
This is why high speed rail in California promises to generate a significant return on investment. Businesses that depend on being able to move personnel quickly from one major city to another benefit tremendously from a high speed rail system.
Air travel corridors and automobile arteries are at or near maximum carrying capacity and travel time using those modes will only get longer and longer in the coming years. Even at a cost of one hundred billion or more, a long term return of trillions makes the project worth it.
PS: Every infrastructure project, public or private, is prone to cost overruns.
Yep just like the Big Dig... https://www.city-journal.org/html/lessons-boston’s-big-dig-13049.html
Have you ever lived or worked in Boston?
If so, where and for how long, and what years?
One could even argue that the DC Metro system is piss pour due to crappy management and funding issues but a drive down to downtown DC will make it clear that, even as crappy as it is, it sure beats trying to go there in a car.
One trip into Georgetown will make it abundantly clear.
Funny during my business career, I traveled to DC and Boston fairly regularly. I fact part of my responsibilities included visiting all regional offices regularly. I find both Boston, D.C. and New York on a par for congestion, filth, and high crime rate.
Funny, I was just thinking about the idiocy of the PMS Left on the subject of the "Wall". In the last two decades or more, part of out transport infrastructure has erected wall around highways of all sorts to block out noise and hitch hikers. I have never heard a word from either side in objection to these barriers. Yet, suddenly the PMS Democrat Leftists find every and any excuse not to build a wall/barrier that will stop or at least slow the problem of illegal immigration. Go figure.....
