I'm putting this in the spending and debt forum rather than the immigration forum, because to me the big point of this story is yet another example of lawmakers pushing spending in places where it's not even wanted. We've seen recent stories where Congress is forcing the Army to take new tanks that the Army doesn't need or want. Now, Congress is pushing for almost doubling the number of border patrol agents, and even the union says there are better and more cost effective ways to achieve the same (stated) goal.

Here's an understatement:

"We're not your ordinary union," said Shawn Moran, the National Border Patrol Council's spokesman. "We really do appreciate the intent of Sens. Hoeven and Corker with the increase in manpower. We just think it can be done better and, frankly, cheaper."

Yeah, there may be a better more cost effective way, but how else are the critters on the hill going to camouflage amnesty? "mrgreen"
