One question I have not heard asked is if a member of nato decides on it's own to defend someone outside of nato and gets attacked in the process, should that be viewed as an attack on nato?

This one for all and all for one stuff a great but im not sure it should apply in this circumstance. I think this is a gut check moment for each country to decide if they want to involve themselves in this or not. If they choose yes I don't think nato should automatically be expected to come to their aid.
