The following is from WEHCO MEDIA (the article is paraphrased below. )
Black farmers fear losing all as relief frozen
Joe Biden promised relief for Black and other minority farmers who helped push him into the White House.
The $1.9 trillion stimulus package contained that long awaited relief. Instead many black farmers and ranchers are falling deeper into debt. The $4 billion in debt forgiveness for Black and other "socially disadvantaged" farmers has been delayed. Now those who were targeted for those relief funds are receiving foreclosure notices from the federal government on loans they currently hold.
In May 2021, the Agriculture Department sent letters to borrowers to sign and confirm their debt balances. However the program is not moving forward because of lawsuits from white farmers and groups representing them that question the legality of the government offering debt relief based only upon race. To make things worse, the Biden administration hasn't appealed the injunctions from courts in Wisconsin and Florida who agreed that the debt relief amounted to discrimination and could be illegal. The Biden administration is defending he program in the courts but that process could take months or even years.
The program designated aid to about 15,000 borrowers who receive loans from the federal government or have bank loans guaranteed by he USDA. Many of the Black and minority farmers that the program was designed to help are angry. They argue that the law was poorly written and the the White house is not defending it forceful enough in court. Worsening those concerns is that the government sent thousands of letters to minority famers who were behind on their loan payments waring of pending foreclosures it they didn't begin payments on their loans which they were told by the Debt of Agriculture had been forgiven.
(Just another case where the Biden administration shows it's incompetence and it's indifference to uniting the nation as Biden claimed he would do.)
