Sounds like a good start. Although 6 billion does not seem like enough to accomplish very much. I think that's around the cost of a single new plant.

In any case, they are flirting with getting push from their environmentalist base. Risky move since they are going to need all the support they can get come November.

Yeah, I've softened my stance on nuclear because of improved safety and as a more reliable energy source to supplement other sources. My main point of contention with more rigid environmentalists is their inability to see that a rapid transition has some pretty dramatic impacts to how we function as a nation, and cannot be done overnight considering how much of our infrastructure is tied to older sources.
