I dont think we have a clear picture of what happened in the first shooting, but there is no question that the second shooting was justified self defense.

I would have to say that the first shooting was justified because that guy with the shirt over his head skittering up behind him was not bringing him a cookie and was definitely all testosteroned up as seen earlier.

But it still leaves problems. He's not old enough to have that gun out in public all by himself. This is actually proven by his running off by himself when things were as heated as they were. Steel courage most likely. Poor judgement.

And then it all goes wrong from there.

No unsupervised kid from states away with an AR, no incident. And that is the issue boiled down to it's essence.

There should be some point where your actions reduce your right to self defense. That at some point you ran towards the danger, started or escalated the incident, continued to pursue after the other retreated, that kind of thing.

Because if you scare someone so badly they attack you in self defense, you somehow get to kill them in self defense. Because you have the gun. Which is too often why you felt so confident menacing that person in the first place.

Testosterone and guns don't mix. And it doesn't matter which side of a badge you're on.

I dont know that I disagree with any of that, but I dont see a murder conviction in his future. Not sure he will be convicted of much of anything.

I kinda wonder if his possession of that gun without supervision is a felony or some other aspect is and that makes all the other shootings felonies automatically.

I don't think he should have his life destroyed. But it might be appropriate to felonize him so he can't have guns anymore.
