Biden administration freezes new oil and gas drilling leases after court rules against key climate tool

Get ready for some break the bank recession inducing skies the limit gas prices. Things are going to get bad enough with Russia invading Ukraine and now idiot Biden does this. It’s like he’s trying to destroy America.

“The Biden administration has once again put a pause on new leases and permits for federal oil and gas drilling after a judge blocked the administration from using a metric that estimates the societal cost of carbon emissions”

even a demented moronic criminal like Biden should know about supply and demand. He turned OFF American energy supply, Keystone Pipeline, oil gas exploration/extraction from fed lands on DAY 1, while demand remains the same. Same energy demand remains at annual levels. i.e., number of commuters, commodities trucked, energy to heat or cool homes, is not static. So he blames the "price gougers" in the oil industry. This ignores the chronological facts and TRUTH.

The criminal moron in the WH Biden, wants to give Iran nukes!. As if his admin. isn't quit certain what "death to America" means. Putin is doing so well with his nuke power, lest give other FANATICS more that can threaten America. Congress has the 25th amend. to protect America. Both sides of Congress need to be swept in 22.with new, young, fighters, unbeholden to china, big tech, big pharma For national security Biden, must be impeached Pelosi also.

Not if you get the electricity from "clean" hydroelectric power.

PLEASE NOTE:- Considering the environmental impact of creating mega acre-feet of impoundment areas or the pollution produced in the construction (including the production of the requisite steel and concrete) of the dams required or the environmental impact of the additional high voltage transmission lines or the pollution produced in the construction (including the production of the requisite steel, copper, and concrete) of the additional high voltage transmission lines or the impact of agriculture due to the delayed release of the water required to produce that electricity is not allowed.
Hydroelectric power is awesome. Clean, reliable, relatively cheap, and doesn't actually consume it's input. Once the equipment is in place, the chief cost is maintenance.

The problem is that you need a large flow of fast moving water to make it work - and that's not available in many places. Efforts to 'create' acceptable water flow (by damming up water) are very destructive to the local environment, and often opposed for this reason. We are unlikely to have any more major hydroelectric dam projects in the US for this reason.

The Biden administration keeps saying the US has more oil leases and is producing more oil than before his administration. Simply false in real world application. There are more leases that have been obtained because just prior to Biden being President and his ban on so much of the oil production, oil complanies bought up leases. Now those leases are unproven, workers are in a shortage, and permits still have to be obtained by all the governement agencies that regulate the drilling of those leases. We are in fact 1.3 million barrels a day short of where we were under Trump.
Biden is playing with the numbers and deliberately misleading what is actually happening with production.
Biden's also negotiating with our enemies, Russia (he did finally ban Russian oil today), Iran with the current JCPOA, OPEC mailnly with the Saudis (not an enemy but certainly we have issues) and most lately Venezuela.
Another issue to new drilling is liberal judges issuing stays against drilling.

Nothing in your post is correct.

Where do you get this batshit crazy stupidity from?

For what high crime or misdemeanor do you imagine would cause articles of impeachment to be drawn up?

Thank you for the message from "The Twilight Zone".

What makes you think hydroelectric power is the answer?
People are moving to the South and Southwest. Where is water power in those regions?

What are the problems with hydroelectric power?
  • Power lines cannot be installed in proximity to populated or protected areas due to the myriad risks they bring, both damaging health or potential death, in the event they’re approached too closely. Furthermore, production and maintenance of substations as well as power lines are proven to present high pollution risks due to carbon emissions.

The fundamental problems with “traditional” power transmission

So Biden or his advisers in the State Dept or both are fools. We aren't willing to use our power but we want to give power to our adversaries. There should be no way that Iran gets nukes. We shouldn't be working deals using the Russians as our go between either. I guess our fools in the state department know they carry no weight and neither does Joe.
He's a fool on energy, wind/solar will never replace fossil fuels and they need to stop lying about it. It's a great tool in the tool box but it's not going to replace fossil fuels in the next 100 years if ever. What good, reliable, clean energy, go nuclear. The green folks don't like nuclear but its much better than any other choice.
The lies about wind/solar and fossil fuels and the dangerous way we deal with our enemies is appalling. The most important things a President can do, Biden F's up.

Which would fry the Texas electrical distribution grid as it now exists.

Which would fry the California electrical distribution grid as it now exists.

An interesting option can be found in

in fact, a sort of similar way, the Sumas Substation

on the BCER "stored" electrical energy because of the massive flywheels attached to its generators. The whole system was fed electricity at a constant rate from the Stave Falls dam and also from the electric trolley cars when they were using "regenerative braking". The power fed to the substation was NOT sufficient for peak operation, but the flywheel generated electricity made up for the deficit (as well as revving up the flywheel when the power demand for the trolley cars was lower than the electricity delivered from the dam.

BTW, the former substation is now a private residence and has been "slightly" renovated.

Do you think the go wind/solar nuts have bothered to carry the numbers out to the ultimate need/benefit? Hell no they haven't. They lie to each other and to those who question the ability of W/S to supply a significant portion of our energy needs.

The US also doesn't have very many major "impoundment areas" left.

In fact, it looks (on a really fast eyeball survey) that the only potentially develop-able rivers are the Skagit and Klamath. Those two rivers have an outfall of approximately 9.06% of the outfall of the Columbia River.

Mind you, I do recall reading (someplace) that there is already enough untapped "low head" dams in the US to provide about 10% of its needed electric power. The problem is that the profit margin resulting from tapping those "low head" dams isn't sufficient to attract the interest of "Big Power".

On the other hand, I did know someone who did invest a windfall payment that they received in their own "micro power" project and then lived quite nicely on the resulting payments from "Big Power" (that was required, by law, to purchase any power that was delivered to their distribution net in a form that was compatible with it).

Of course they haven't.

What they have done is just enough research to "prove" their case.

Wind and solar power are just peachy keen, and will be even better than that IF the load leveling and storage problems can be solved. (So far the best solution available is pumping water back upstream of hydroelectric dams. That, of course, cuts down on the water available for the irrigation needed for food production - but you can't have your cake and bake it too.)
They lie to each other and to those who question the ability of W/S to supply a significant portion of our energy needs.
"With the conservative numbers from NREL's land use report, we can estimate that roughly 14,000,000 acres or 22,000 square miles of solar panel-filled land would be required to generate enough electricity to solar-power the U.S. This is about the size of the Mojave desert."
[SOURCE]

Of course, that doesn't bother to deal with the environmental effects of having 22,000 sq.mi. (or even the 13, 376 sq.mi. required to replace the 60.8% of the US electricity that is produced from hydrocarbon fuels) of reflective surfaces added to increase the Earth's albedo. (I have no idea what those would be and neither do the "W/S Nuts".)

See above.

PS - Space limitations do not permit listing 100% of the potential negative consequences of all potential sources of power.

But if you don’t list every possible contingency, doesn’t that constitute lying you omission?😃😃😃😃

Quite right.

Why I should give Mr. Trump the credit for saving the lives of every American who got vaccinated simply because they thought that anything that Mr. Trump was much more likely to be false than it was to be true and Mr. Trump said that they didn't need to.

People still think the Keystone pipeline extension, which would transport Canadian tar sand oil to the gulf for export, on behalf of a Canadian oil company, has something to do with US crude oil production.

That's fascinating to me. It's like the Big Lie but for oil. It just is because it is.

As for blaming Biden for gas prices, I'm too tired to wade into that morass and attempt to correct so many of the false premises on which the claim arises, but tip of the cap to those brave souls who have tried in this thread. If you believe that US oil production and gas prices are controlled by the US President and not the oil companies and the immutable "free market," god love you. Some of you sound like closet socialists, looking to government to regulate the market and prices.

Ok. I'll get back to you on that. Put it on your calendar.

I find the sheer quantity of partial truths, cherry-picked data and plain old nonsense posted about oil and gas on forums these days to be wryly humorous. As far as prospecting leases are concerned, two simple questions and their answers should get things back on track.

Question the first. How much time elapses between the opening of lands for bids and actual production from those sites begins?

Question the second. How many oil and gas leases have been awarded by the United States of America that have not yet been drilled?

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.
It would help in understanding this issue, if people realized that leasing the land is like acquiring a site for a factory well ahead of time, to ensure that it is available when needed. Drilling is like building that factory, the main capital expenditure.
In most industries, the factory is not built until demand for the product is expected in the very near future. Otherwise, the interest costs on the capital will eat your lunch.

When Henry Ford decided he would build cars in Detroit, he acquired thousands of acres around River Rouge. Over decades to come, he built assembly plants, stamping and casting plants, even his own steel mill. This would not have been practical, if he had not gotten the large, one piece site. It would have also been impractical for him to have built all these facilities immediately. He wasn't That rich!

The same considerations apply to leasing drilling rights, exploring the site, and finally investing often millions of dollars per well to begin production.

I believe the jackass was in the habit of saying something like “get vaccinated! If you want to. Wear a mask! If you want to. I am not going to wear a mask “.

What a load of counterproductive crap.

Hi, coyote505!

The lack of understanding of the petroleum industry, its relationship to governments and the mechanics [Ed.: And time required] of lease to drill to shipment to refinery to gas station is apparent in many posts.

[Disclaimer: Among my other activities were 5 years spent as a chemist at a petroleum refinery.]

Regards, stay safe 'n well.
