According to the 2018 Siena poll, Eisenhower is ranked #6 and Reagan is ranked #13. Siena college basically surveys historians. Who was the better President?

Reagan. Hands down. He did not install the Shah in Iran or stab Britain, France and Israel in the back at Suez. Eisenhower did. Both decisions, one of intervention and one of counter-intervention would lead to the current mess the Middle East is in now.

I would take either Reagan or Eisenhower over who we have now, however.

Despite his many faults, I personally would prefer Reagan over Ike.

I was a teenager in the 1950s, so "I like Ike."

The 1950s were generally a peaceful time, especially here in Los Angeles.

People generally kept within bounds, but there were, indeed, some rumblings of discontent in other parts of the nation. In fact, Ike reluctantly sent federal troops to Arkansas to enforce a court order regarding schools.

I remember the 1950s as that of "I Love Lucy" and when I would regularly attend night classes at the university without worrying about being robbed or sucker punched or even murdered when I walked to my car after class.

the interstate highway system was better than giving rich people a lot of money from the treasury. amnesty was better than operation wetback. Eisenhower was a good general, and gave a Washington-esque farewell speech about the military industrial complex. Reagan was good at tv in a time when that was necessary. my study of twentieth century history would need some touching up before i could make a thorough argument for one or the other. i'll have to go with a draw, and then possibly change my mind about that as others weigh in.

Today both would be labeled as RINOs and far-left socialist globalist radicals with Reagan believing in amnesty, and Eisenhower believing in big-government and foreign intervention.

Reagan was the biggest crook ever. He is soley responsible for how Social Security is in dire straits now.

Social Security had a $2.7 trillion surplus which should have provided for the baby boomers retirements.
But Reagan along with Alan Greenspan found a way to spend that surplus for general government operations.

And the Bushes and Clinton followed suit of robbing the Social Security piggy bank.

Reagan was the better president and he helped win the Cold War and in no small part oversaw the triumph of Capitalism over Communism and American Conservatism over Liberalism.

Seems like we're fighting that same battle again nowadays. Except the Marxists now call themselves BLM and the Liberals call themselves Progressives. Same as it ever was.

“Stab in the back”

The US made the right call at the Suez. It was the last gasp of European colonialism, and it was never going to work out well. Had the US weighed in to support the Europeans it would have driven vast swathes of the Third World into the open arms of the Soviets. The fact of the matter is that despite the hysterics of the British, Nasser was not, in fact, the next coming of Hitler, and the Egyptians were sick and tired of being a British puppet state, which is why they overthrew their king in the first place.

Despite Reagan being vaunted by the Right, his policies were some of the worst things ever fostered upon the American public. Reaganomics & The War on Drugs have caused untold harm to our citizens. I did like Reagan as a man. He seemed like a decent guy. But his policies were a terrible travesty. And right up there with Reaganomics & WoD, is G.W.'s Patriot Act.

The aforementioned are Republican authoritative acts removing Americans' freedoms. Which is why I can no longer vote GOP.

Lincoln was the best president ever, and he was republican.

Not a Trump republican, but a republican nonetheless. More of a Bush republican.

They both made nice speeches. The dangers of industrial military complex versus tear down this wall. Foreign policy wise neither were great but Reagan probably edges it for hastening the deadline of the USSR even though the other things he did were basically traitorous. Don’t really know much about Ike’s domestic policies but Reagan started the absolutely dreadful economic mismanagement of the country which has been continued by every Republican of note since then.

Eisenhower was a dick. he made an executive order to fire fire all gays from Federal positions.

I think Ike was Napoleon.

He started it, he finished it.

He presided over our spanking for slaughtering up the Indian Cattle.

Yes, Eisenhower was a dick.

I would vote for Eisenhower, not because I like Ike but because he's not Reagan.

Reagan was a monster, and he might have actually been the literal antichrist imo

Eisenhower, easily.
