BET should be ashamed of themselves.

.

This Friday night BET is airing a special program called "Justice for Trayvon: Our Son Is Your Son" and I find this both sad, as well as disturbing.

Doing a show in support of Travon Martin before the trial starts and anyone even knows what really happened, speaks pretty poorly for BET and the black community in general for supporting such a program... It says quite clearly that the only thing that matters to BET is the fact that Martin's black, and no matter what he may have done or what really happened that night, he has their unconditional support... They have clearly put race above all else, and in this day and age that is truly sad. What disturbs me greatly is the fact that they are advocating for a man to spend the rest of his life in prison, and whether he's actually guilty of a crime or not, is of no consequence to them.

Think about this... If Martin was white and Zimmerman was black and there was a cable channel called CET (Caucasian Entertainment Television) that ran such a special, what do you think the media would be screaming from every rooftop and rightly so? How can black people in America possibly expect our society to treat them equally and be "color blind", when they are willing to subvert justice and put race above all else, even if that means an innocent man may spend the rest of his life in prison?

Racism is hurtful, it's wrong and should not be tolerated or accepted from anyone, and no group of people knows this better than black people in America. MLK famously said that we should not judge a man by the color of his skin, but rather by the content of his character. What BET is doing is wrong and it's time that our society stopped turning a blind eye to this type of racist behavior, and started holding everyone to the standards MLK fought so hard for...

The problem will never go away until we do...
