Who do you think is the best President we have had in recent history and why?

*In the poll, use the top half answers for best President... I messed up the poll... only vote using the top half answers and only vote for best President.*

I'm not sure how you define recent.

Carter was the worst president in my lifetime. Bush II is a close second.

Hmm...Depends what you consider "recent history." I'll define it as the post-WWII era, in which case I would rank them as follows:

1. John F. Kennedy
2. Bill Clinton
3. Ronald Reagan
4. George H.W. Bush
5. Harry Truman
6. Dwight Eisenhower
7. Jerry Ford
8. Lyndon Johnson
9. Richard Nixon
10. Jimmy Carter
11. George W. Bush

"Recent history" meaning the Presidents I listed in the poll.

Quick question... is there any way to fix the poll I just posted?... I made a mistake on it.

Attempting to use a poll for two seperate questions isn't going to fly well anyway. Too confusing.

I liked Kandahar's definition, so maybe a poll itself isn't a way to go. I'lll list 'em from good to bad

I listed FDR twice, as he was the best and the worst. His expansion of the federal government is by far the worst thing any president has ever done, but his handling of a very difficult world war and guiding an isolated populace into it was remarkable.

1. FDR
2. Ronald Reagan - probably too high but my favorite "person" out of all of them
3. John F. Kennedy
4. Bill Clinton - probably too high since most of his success can be attributed to the end of the cold war
5. Dwight Eisenhower
6. Lyndon Johnson
7. Harry Truman
8. George H.W. Bush
9. Jerry Ford -
10. Richard Nixon
11. George W. Bush
12. Jimmy Carter - probably too low considering he did next to nothing good or bad
13 FDR

Best President for international affairs and security: President W. Bush and President Reagan.

Best President for internal affairs: President Clinton.

Here is my rank...

Best: 1. George W. Bush
2. Ronald Reagan
3. George H.W. Bush
4. Bill Clinton
Worst: 5. Jimmy carter

I have George W. Bush first because of his views on the defense of this country... National defense/security is the most important issue.

1. Ronald Reagan
2. Jerry Ford
3. Harry Truman
4. George H.W. Bush
5. Dwight Eisenhower
6. George W. Bush
7. John F. Kennedy
8. Lyndon Johnson
9. Richard Nixon
10. Bill Clinton
11. Jimmy Carter

In my 38 years of life,

The best, Reagan, followed by Clinton...

The worst, Carter, followed by... well, even I can't see that far... he's the worst by far...

My Best are Reagan and JFK

My worse are Carter and Clinton

1. Eisenhower
2. Kennedy
3. Clinton
4. Johnson
5. Ford
6. Carter
7. Nixon
8. Bush I
9. Reagan

Regarding the five posted....I wouldn't say any of them were "great". I think Clinton was a decent President...I wasn't really into him...but he eventually won me over.

The rest is just the best of a bad lot....I would rank them from Best to Worst.

1. Clinton
2. Reagan
3. Carter
4. HW Bush
5. GWB

Best President for international affairs and security: President W. Bush and President Reagan.

I am surprised you put W as the best, given all the criticism you've made of his Iraq policies. What about W has he done to warrant this exhalted position in your opinion?

Clinton saved your country from ruin.. You should be a bit appreciative even if you are conservative.

Clinton was a disgrace to the office of the presidency....He was a man with no morals........

I don't think you're going to get an accurate poll result. I was way eager to vote for W as the worst. but then I noticed how your question said "best/worst" and then I thought "wait a sec, what the heck does that even mean?" ... and then I read your post.

there are no doubt a few people out there that dislike W as much or more than I do.

recent history doesn't matter. Bush II has been the worst President this country has ever had.

I say that, full well knowing plenty about Presidential history. this country has had some doozies. but that was before the US was a global power. Bush's incompetence and radical, nutty policies have affected many more people in a negative way than earlier Presidents did.

Carter wasn't nearly as bad as Bush. Carter was merely ineffective. Bush has been quite effective at destroying America's prestige.

I can't say we've had a best president in recent history. They've all been quite bad.

The last century was interesting. after the roaring 20's and the terrible string of Presidents back then, we had an amazing President in FDR. and Truman was OK, and then Eisenhower was quite good. after that, they've all been bad. horrible, in my opinion.
