Bernie Sanders: I'll probably vote for Clinton - CNNPolitics.com

Ok. I just saw on Facebook my soon to be brother in law going off! He's one of the 'feel the bern' guys. He's devastated that someone against the establishment of money and power, Hillary, would earn the vote of Bernie.

Me personally, I figured all along this dude was not for real and he'd support Hillary in the end. I saw this coming. However, it's trending on Facebook the outrage of the bern crowd.

My question is, is anyone surprised or upset? Or did everyone else know this guy was a wanna-be socialist fraud?

I don't see it as a big deal. I think a large majority of the voting public will eventually vote for Hillary Clinton.

So why do you see this as something unusual?

He spent so much time destroying her reputation with Independents, I find it super interesting. Heck, he was almost on par with Trump on Hillary bashing.

The Damage Bernie?s Hillary Bashing May Do - WSJ

As stated in the OP, I saw this coming though. He was a fraud from day one.

I always said that's what he'd do when it became a certainty he wouldn't be the nominee. Trump supporters only saw his "outsider-ness" and assumed, not having bothered to learn anything about the guy beyond that fact, that Sanders would be in the race "to watch it all burn" (no pun intended). While Sanders would indeed like to see major changes, he has no desire to do so at the cost of destroying the country. He's far more pragmatic than anybody gave him credit for.

Sorry I should have clarified. I don't care how trump supporters saw this. Please re-read the OP plus my response above. The confusion lies in his speeches against Hillary and the establishment.

He ran a campaign...and was determined to win. Primaries always have party members trashing other party members.

MOST OF THE TIME...at the end of the primary season, the losers back the winners.

That is what's happening here.

No. Big. Deal.

On the other side of the aisle, however...you might find some surprises.

Haha why the deflection? It's no secret he made historical grounds against the DNC establishment. His entire image was against the DNC, RNC, and the money establishment of politics. I love how all of the sudden everyone is 'playing' dumb.

No deflection...just mentioning some things.

Your premise is an absurdity...and I doubt there were many people who thought at the end of the primary season, the loser would support the winner.

Hillary is the winner; Bernie the loser.

At the end of the day...you come away with what you can. And if it is not entirely what you wanted...you man up and realize that THE OTHER PERSON WON.

I don't care how Trump supporters this either. They were one-dimensional idiots and now they're surprised because they're uncurious and didn't bother learning who he actually was. Whoop-de-doo.

I'm confused as to your presence on this thread. If you want to bash trump, feel free. Maybe on a thread where he's relevant.

It didn't require much clairvoyance to see this outcome in the case that Sanders fails to get the nomination, which he did. Regardless of his awful base, the man is principled; he wouldn't shoulder the burden of seeing the country burn to the ground in good conscience. That his base is outraged speaks of its ineptitude and intransigence.

You, like other Trump supporters, convinced yourselves that Bernie and his supporters would do something that would end up helping Trump because of his "outsider-ness." Many of you even believed his supporters would flock to Trump. It was hilarious because nobody who understood why they were supporting Bernie would do that in a million years. The connection of Trump to this thread is you're disappointed that Sanders, not getting the nomination, didn't opt to "burn it all down" (again, pun entirely unintended), thereby handing the election to Trump.

Whether you like it or not, Clinton will be your President in January.

1. There are very few true independents. Most people that identify themselves as independent vote every bit as partisan as those that identify with a party. For the most part there are Republican Independents that always vote Republican and Democratic Independents that always vote Democrat, and a tiny percentage of independents that really are independent. The vast majority of "independents" that support Trump are voters that virtually always vote Republican. The vast majority of "independents" that support Bernie are voters that virtually always vote Democrat.

See: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...8/most-political-independents-actually-arent/

2. If you are a Bernie supporter and you don't vote for Hillary come November, then frankly you are a ****ing idiot. The next president will potentially appoint 3 Supreme Court justices. Thus this is the most consequential election in at least a couple of generations. If you care about liberal causes, and you don't vote for Hillary, you will ensure that SCOTUS gets 3 more Scalia clones. Thus virtually the entire liberal agenda of the last 50 years will be at stake.

Frankly, if you really care about conservative causes, particularly socially conservative causes, for the same reasons you would be a ****ing idiot not to vote for Trump come November because of what it means for SCOTUS.

Haha we get it. Trump factors into everything you need to say. You guys give him so much cred

I am not anywhere close to a social conservative. I'm an atheist. pro choice, guy.

The only credibility I give to Trump is for his ability to attract an unthinking, cult-like following, even in light of the growing evidence that he may not even be trying to win. In that he has been quite extraordinary. Nothing else about him has been particularly remarkable.

Your hatred is so deep. Say, do you happen to be a British 19 year old?

Your frustration is evident. You kidded yourself that Bernie supporters were coming your way. Now you're going to have to bank on a guy who's behind in Utah and Arizona and isn't even advertising in swing states. You picked a real champ, there.

I picked a Champ? How popular do you think I am?

When President Trump takes the Oath, I sure hope you finally end this hatred.

Since Bernie didn't win the nomination, who did your brother in law expect Bernie to vote for?

Well if you vote for Trump, and he wins, you will get a SCOTUS that will almost certainly overturn Roe V. Wade, weaken the Separation of Church and State, Same Sex Marriage could be overturned at the Federal Level, and so on. Basically a SCOTUS that will be very, very, socially conservative and activist towards those socially conservative views. For crying out loud, when Sodomy Laws were struck down, Scalia wrote the dissent. Had SCOTUS had just one more social conservative on it at the time, the government would literally be in your bedroom.

This is exactly why a social liberal would be a fool not to vote for Hillary, and a social conservative would be a fool not to vote for Trump.

Social issues are important, but not as important as Domestic economics, foreign policy (which dictates the first- and social) and then comes social issues. I'm much rather spend years developing new trades and peace agreements, than wasting time on some #blacklivesmatter nonsense that doesn't deserve the time of day.

If you think Trump will be any different than any other Republican on Domestic and Foreign policy, then you will be in for a disappointment. Both parties only have a limited number of people with the required expertise to work as staffers, advisers, and secretaries. This is why the Obama Administration started with a lot of people that had previously worked for the Clinton Administration and the Bush Administration started with a lot of people from the previous Bush Sr and Reagan Administrations. If Clinton is elected much of her administration will be staffed with people from the Clinton and Obama Administrations and if Trump is elected, most of his people will come from the Bush Administration. This is why Administration policies are almost always continuations of previous administration policies of the same party. Trump will be no different.

I figured all along if he didn't get the nomination he would support Hillary over the Republican nominee, especially if that nominee was Trump. It is the lesser of two evils game that most Americans play. Maybe if the Republicans hadn't nominated such a dangerous person Bernie would be more likely to play hard ball. Maybe not.

It is a little easier for a nobody like me to vote their conscience and say they are going to vote Green or Libertarian. Realistically it doesn't matter in the big picture. If Bernie comes out and says not to vote for Hillary, that will be a big help to Trump. And I think Bernie views a Trump presidency as far worse than the same old bad we are used to.

I get it. Pragmatism is often disappointing and unsatisfying. I will probably vote Green. But if I were in his shoes? I don't know.

The mere fact that we will have Obama 2.0 (which would be Bush3.0) is why I will never vote for Hillary.
