In the last few days Bernie Sanders has been making the rounds saying that he plans to hold President-Elect Donald Trump accountable for the promises made during his campaign. As is custom with Sanders he actually plans to do the things he says he wants to do and he's taking his first step. Senator Sanders is proposing the "Outsourcing Prevention Act". The act would impose a number of penalties on any business that ships jobs out of the country. Penalties include a baring from consideration for federal contracts, extremely rigorous tax penalties, a cut in federal benefits, and several other penalties for business execs.
Sanders is challenging President-Elect Trump to support and sign his bill as a means of living up to his campaign promise to make America work again and to make America first again. Here's a link to Sanders' press release on the topic Sanders Statement on Carrier and Outsourcing - Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
So Sanders is taking on the President-Elect and is trying to single handedly solve the problem of outsourcing.

Your thoughts?

I'd really like to see Trump and Bernie work together more. They both presented themselves as anti-estabishment politicians, so I think if they work together, a whole lot of good could potentially come out of it.

Since Trump licenses his name out like a whore, all those clothes with the Trump name are really just foreign companies. Trump himself should have no trouble signing the bill, but I haven't read the nitty gritty of Sander's proposal. When it comes to laws, the devil is always in the details, not the politician's talking points.

The general debate thus far seems to be that Sanders goes to far and it's lunacy to try and end the problem in one broad sweep. Which may well be true. Formal debates will be interesting

I'm right on board with this. :applaud

It's something that should have been in the forefront of trade and economic policy for every elected member of our Federal government.

It would rightly have been passed long ago; yet the problem remains that the majority of representatives are in the pockets of special interest lobbies.

That said, another law should be enacted eliminating lobbying gifts/finances entirely. People should be able to petition their representatives, but it should be done honestly and without influence peddling.

An innovative idea, as non tariff trade barriers go; well, sort of. We have had similar legislation before. It would certainly harm the consumer with higher prices and reduce the country's efficiency. How it would affect labor is unclear and would probably depend on the future period you look at. As the efficiency would fall, it is highly likely that the sum of total earnings would fall. Whether this would allocate to more jobs at lower pay or to fewer jobs with higher mechanization is hard to say.

Usually one thinks that two populists should get along well. But in history they will mostly fall out quickly and fight it out till one is gone.
