The leftists, which include a coalition of Communists, Greens, and Liberals, have won the elections in Italy, and Berlusconi is out on his butt. The war in Iraq and corruption in his administration were cited as the reasons for his loss. War in Iraq and corruption? Sound familiar?

Italy has a functioning democracy where cheating at the ballot box is very very hard. First off I belive you are automatically registered to vote (like most countries in the EU), so you cant let your dog vote or have dead people cast ballots. Funny how Europeans have made systems that prevent such stupid attempts of vote rigging and yet the so called "bastion of democracy" has not :roll:

On the other hand, berlusconi is an idiot and the italian election was the choice between a rock and hard spot. Vote for Berlusconi and his wack job ideas or vote for communist inspired politics... I dunno whats worse.

As it looks now the italian tradition of an election a year will restart but you got to love the election turn out... over 80%.

Also funny thing is that Berlusconi was the first prime minister to serve a full term since El Duce....

Its going to be weeks if not months until this election is sorted out, might even have to be another election.
PeteEU, WE ARE the bastion of democracy. Multiple party government, less vote rigging.

Congratulations. I just wish we had citizens here who cared that much about their government that they were willing to be part of it. Many here in the US cannot break away from their reality TV shows long enough to go out and vote. Of course, because of that attitude, we got the government we fully deserve. Republican? Democrat? Flip a coin. We as citizens of a nation dont really care, nor do we care enough about real Democracy to do our share to keep it. This may sound somewhat harsh, but it is the unadulterated truth.
