YALAMBOJOCH, Guatemala (Reuters) - Between heavy sobs, Catarina Alonzo explained that when her husband left Guatemala to try to reach the United States, they hoped taking their 8-year-old son would make it easier for the pair to get in. Instead, the boy fell ill and died.

Speaking at her home in a mountainous region of western Guatemala, Catarina Alonzo said neighbors had told the family that taking a child would provide her husband with a way in.

“Lots of them have gone with children and managed to cross, even if they’re held for a month or two. But they always manage to get across easily,” she told Reuters in an interview.

Marta Larra, a spokeswoman for Guatemala’s Foreign Ministry, said smugglers known as “coyotes” often encourage migrants to take children as a form of “visa”.

This and all other deaths are on the Democrats hands, and any other supporters of an Open Border policy.

They foment this idiocy, the death, rape and misery that results from it.

Let's get things in perspective. The Felipe and Jakelin's siblings and mothers are all alive in Guatemala. We told there fathers the trip was long and dangerous and not to come. Their fathers ignored the warnings. That is child endangerment.

And here comes the victim-blaming. Right on cue.

Also, why do you not want to keep your government accountable?

I sympathize with mother, but I believe the children were killed because of their trip. The US is a compassionate country, and I have never heard of cases where life saving treatment was denied to illegal immigrants.

And here comes the government blaming, Right on Cue.

Accountable for what? Seems preliminary medical reports have the children picking up an illness before entering the US.
It is not the US govt fault for the parent and the child entering the US illegally.
It is not the US govt fault the child became ill.

if we just let people in dosent seem like people would try to bring their kids along just to get in

seems like it would cut down on people smugglers to

Yeah, let’s keep things in perspective.

People drag children through hell because Democrats have left the impression that it will help them enter the country.

They die on the way.

Are raped on the way.

And we are inviting the lowest skilled and educated... which hurts our poor most.

Thanks Democrats.

We are.

Admitting the idiotic “policy” of Democrats and their Open Border is accepting responsibility for the deaths, rapes, and cartel involvement.

But... Democrats are shucking responsibility.

My government told them not to come and that the trip was very dangerous. . They ignored that warning. Why do you want to blame our government. What about personal responsibility? There is no victim here other than the Filipe and Jakelin their parent's poor decisions led to their deaths. Child endangerment.

You wouldn't know a fact if it walked up punched you in the nose. There is no such thing as an open border policy and the current laws pertaining to asylum and immigrant/migrant children was sponsored by the Republicans.

"The “William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008.” Named for the famed English politician who eventually led Great Britain to ban slavery, the law is meant to combat human trafficking. The kids who are trying to enter America are supposed to be detained, and get a fair hearing, to ensure that they aren’t victims of human trafficking, a modern-day slavery. The bill covers children from three Latin American countries: El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.

The bill was co-sponsored by Republicans are Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida and Chris Smith of New Jersey. It was also co-sponsored by Democrats John Conyers of Michigan, Zoe Lofgren of California, and Bobby Scott of Virginia. The original sponsor was Howard Berman, a California Democrat.

That law was signed by President George W. Bush on December 23, 2008,"

Whose idiocy is it now?

Yes, let's get things into perspective. This child survived 7 years of extreme poverty in Guatemala and a 2000 mile hazardous journey to the US. But he couldn't survive 6 days in US custody. One of the richest if not the richest country in the world.

The preliminary autopsy results are that the child had influenza. Influenza has an incubation period of 1 to 4 days with 2 days being the average. This child was in US custody for 6 days.

Which he probably got from another migrant child. What is your solution to prevent them from getting the flu? Give every singled detained child a vaccine maybe?

Why do you blame the government for everything now that Trump is president?
When Obama was president you never opened your yap about anything he did?
Not a worry about accountability back in the Obama days? Double standard??

So what.... If Daddy did not drag the child across the border and expose him to influenza the kid would still be alive.
Get a clue stupid people stop putting your child in harms way. Your are killing your kids. Stop it now!!

That's because the last hundred miles or so are across desert. The children died of complications from exposure, malnutrition and dehydration. Do you think that all happens in the 24 hours after they are taken into custody?

"So what" is exactly what I figured someone like yourself would say. No big deal. Just another very young innocent life cut far too prematurely short

Which you 'probably' don't have any idea is true or not since it he could've just as easily contracted it from some American at the facilities in question. Not to mention that doctors associated with and whom have worked at and studied these remote border camp facilities have strongly recommended that no children should ever be held long term at these remote facilities that were designed primarily for adults 20-30 years or more ago. Because the conditions at theses facilities are so squalid as to be incubators for the spreading of disease. And this kid was moved to at least 4 times to such various remote facilities in the 6 days he was in our custody.

Borders are open and Democrats support it.

And... we see Leftists here complain about government failure, and it does fail spectacularly... pretty much everywhere, yet Democrats want more of it.

Border Security is Job #1, yet Leftists want no part of it. Even communists got walls to work... which bodes well for the US when the Leftist dimwits regain power one day.

Even if he contracted it from an american it's still the parents fault. Legal immigrants have to go through a medical evaluation and police clearance before entering the US. You still haven't answered my question. How do you suggest the govt handle migrant children while their asylum applications are being processed?

"So what" is exactly what I figured someone like yourself would say. No big deal. Just another very young innocent life cut far too prematurely short

It's not our government's fault. And I'm very happy to see that people aren't going along with that. This kid died because he took a 2000 mile trip from Guatemala. If he had stayed put and probably would have been less lethal.

I know you people want to blame Trump but Trump didn't tell him to leave Guatemala Trump didn't tell the parents to drag their eight-year-old son with as a matter of fact Trump was saying you're not coming in.

I don't know why you're not blaming whoever was funding this caravan. Oh wait I know the idea that all these trucks and supplies being funded by outside sources is it conspiracy theory right.
