No surprise here. Groundswell stoked the flames of the non-scandal and their puppets jumped.

As Mother Jones revealed last week, Groundswell, the hush-hush right-wing strategy group partly led by Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, wanted to hype the Benghazi tragedy into a full-fledged scandal for the Obama administration, as part of its "30 front war" on the president and progressives. A secret audio tape of one of Groundswell's weekly meetings shows that prominent members of the group pressed House Speaker John Boehner and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), the chair of the House oversight committee, to expand the Benghazi investigation and make this supposed scandal a top-priority for congressional Republicans. This recording indicates Groundswell's mission extends beyond message coordination to scandal-stoking.

The tape has been posted at Crooks and Liars, a progressive web site, and it captured the first 20 minutes of Groundswell's May 8 meeting. (The site does not say how the recording was obtained.) The meeting opened with a prayer ("Father, we thank you for the opportunity to gather here as free Americans"), and a roll call was taken. Among those present were former GOP Rep. Allen West, Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, Jerry Boykin of the Family Research Council, Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch, Stephen Bannon of Breitbart News, and Ginni Thomas. Catherine Engelbrecht, a founder of True the Vote, led the meeting, and the first order of business was a report on the Benghazi controversy from Boykin and Gaffney.

The pair reported on meetings they had held the previous night with Boehner and Issa. The two Groundswellers had encouraged the lawmakers to set up a special committee to investigate the attacks on the US facilities in Benghazi. Boykin, according to the recording, noted that Boehner had said he wanted the process "to play out" first, apparently meaning that he wasn't yet ready to step up the GOP Benghazi campaign. Boehner, Boykin recounted, had expressed the concern that were he to create such a committee, the media would cover it as a political stunt designed to bring down Obama.

Groundswell: A Secret Tape Reveals How It Lobbied Boehner and Issa on Benghazi | Mother Jones

Which, of course, it was. Boehner is no dummy. The rest of that bunch? Not so much.

Obama and Hillary sat by and watched as 4 Americans were killed, They ignored pleas for help and still nobody knows where Obama was for 7 critical hours. Now he isn't even looking for the killers, CNN can find one and interview him for two hours but Obama apparently has put a stand down order on this too. Nope, no scandal here.

There was a time when our main stream media would be livid over being mislead by the loser in charge for 3 weeks. There was a time when it would not be acceptable to the American Public to have its dictator claim it suffered a loss at the hands of rioters / protestors angry at a video instead of active terrorists the administration claimed were all but defeated. There was a time when America would be upset its ambassador had inadequate protection and was killed in the service of his country. Yes there was a time when America was all that - now they call it progress that those who still care be called partisan hacks over a phony event.

America really should be ashamed of itself for letting obama pretend he'd get those responsible, pretend why it happened for 3 weeks, and refuse to answer legitimate questions on what happened that night.

Mother Jones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 Bwuahahahahahaha

Obama and Hillary sat by and watched as 4 Americans were killed, .

Nothing like a little false narrative made up by the rightwing noise machine to warm the cockles of a tea partier's heart.

Quoting Mother Jones and calling it fact, is like quoting a bunch of debutantes saying "caviar is tasty" and calling it fact.

And their made up story doesnt even make sense, if you think about it.

I see your noise machine is having an influence.

Of course it doesn't. That's why thinking people stared on with puzzled looks whenever a nutty Rightie began blabbering endlessly about the cover up in Benghhaaazzzii!!!

They kept trying to paint this scenario of Obama being disinterested, as if he was playing video games with a "do not disturb" sign hanging on his door, while Hillary laughed evil and downed shots with her lesbian lover on the night of the attack.

Yea, sadly I think you are exactly correct.

We all know that this story never sees the light of day over at Fox.

So 4 Americans were not killed? Obama and Hillary did WHAT to save them?

What they didn't do (thank God) is invade and spend $3T like Bush did or go on a crazy bombing run and threaten our future relationship with Libya, as the terrorists wanted to goad us into doing (and something a dolt like Bush would have done)

So your position is that presidents can stop violence in chaotic nations through will power or by bombing runs? What exactly are you saying again? Nothing really.

Yeah, I think sawyer doesn't even believe that jet fighters could have broken up a crowd in Benghazi. The idea that the military is positioned to stop street violence at an informational center in a secondary town in a chaotic nation where we are trying to gain influence (which bombing probably wouldn't help) either shows how delusional conservatives are, or how they are willing to say anything no matter how nonsensical to attack Obama.

What I'm saying is Obama and Hillary did absolutely nothing for the seven hours this attack went on. They ignored pleas for help and left these people twisting in the wind while rescuers were told to stand down. These are undeniable facts and part of history, a part that democrats even as we speak are attempting to revise.

Obama and Hillary sat by and watched as 4 Americans were killed...

It was a CIA operation. In their zeal to create a scandal, congress exposed the CIA "annex" and it's location to the media and the public which put the entire CIA operation and more lives in jeopardy....

"....Through their outbursts, cryptic language and boneheaded questioning of State Department officials, the committee members left little doubt that one of the two compounds at which the Americans were killed, described by the administration as a “consulate” and a nearby “annex,” was a CIA base. They did this, helpfully, in a televised public hearing.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) was the first to unmask the spooks. “Point of order! Point of order!” he called out as a State Department security official, seated in front of an aerial photo of the U.S. facilities in Benghazi, described the chaotic night of the attack. “We’re getting into classified issues that deal with sources and methods that would be totally inappropriate in an open forum such as this.”

As soon as Chaffetz had his hissy fit in public, Darrell Issa jumped in, making it even worse:

Now that Chaffetz had alerted potential bad guys that something valuable was in the photo, the chairman, Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), attempted to lock the barn door through which the horse had just bolted. “I would direct that that chart be taken down,” he said, although it already had been on C-SPAN. “In this hearing room, we’re not going to point out details of what may still in fact be a facility of the United States government or more facilities.”

May still be a facility? The plot thickened — and Chaffetz gave more hints. “I believe that the markings on that map were terribly inappropriate,” he said, adding that “the activities there could cost lives.” ...read.....

Probably none of these things you state as fact are true. Do you believe Obama went to his room and would not come out and literlly ignored the people in Benghazi? Do you thinkit might just be possible the troops you guys keep talking about were to few to quell a large street riot. A commander has to think about effectivness of troops he commits to battle, any less than a company and it sounds like they would have just joined the dead. The ignored an twisting in the wind are not facts, they are just made up right wing BS.

Oh OK, so that makes it no big deal. Obama should have just went to bed and let them fend for themselves, oh wait, HE DID!

More made up RW BS. Besides Obama goes to bed every night with people in harms way. So did Bush for the most part.

So what exactly were Obama's orders during these critical 7 hours? Ill answer for you, nobody knows where he was or what he said.

This is false. So the real question is why are you repeating it.

What would Bush have done? Invade Libya? No, he'd do absolutely nothing. Do you remember any of these attacks on US consulates when Bush was president? I guess they're no big deal because conservatives haven't made a peep about them.

January 22, 2002. Calcutta, India. Gunmen associated with Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami attack the U.S. Consulate. Five people are killed.

June 14, 2002. Karachi, Pakistan. Suicide bomber connected with al Qaeda attacks the U.S. Consulate, killing 12 and injuring 51.

October 12, 2002. Denpasar, Indonesia. U.S. diplomatic offices bombed as part of a string of "Bali Bombings." No fatalities.

February 28, 2003. Islamabad, Pakistan. Several gunmen fire upon the U.S. Embassy. Two people are killed.

May 12, 2003. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Armed al Qaeda terrorists storm the diplomatic compound, killing 36 people including nine Americans. The assailants committed suicide by detonating a truck bomb.

July 30, 2004. Tashkent, Uzbekistan. A suicide bomber from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan attacks the U.S. Embassy, killing two people.

December 6, 2004. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Al Qaeda terrorists storm the U.S. Consulate and occupy the perimeter wall. Nine people are killed.

March 2, 2006. Karachi, Pakistan again. Suicide bomber attacks the U.S. Consulate killing four people, including U.S. diplomat David Foy who was directly targeted by the attackers. (I wonder if Lindsey Graham or Fox News would even recognize the name "David Foy." This is the third Karachi terrorist attack in four years on what's considered American soil.)

September 12, 2006. Damascus, Syria. Four armed gunmen shouting "Allahu akbar" storm the U.S. Embassy using grenades, automatic weapons, a car bomb and a truck bomb. Four people are killed, 13 are wounded.

January 12, 2007. Athens, Greece. Members of a Greek terrorist group called the Revolutionary Struggle fire a rocket-propelled grenade at the U.S. Embassy. No fatalities.

March 18, 2008. Sana'a, Yemen. Members of the al-Qaeda-linked Islamic Jihad of Yemen fire a mortar at the U.S. Embassy. The shot misses the embassy, but hits nearby school killing two.

July 9, 2008. Istanbul, Turkey. Four armed terrorists attack the U.S. Consulate. Six people are killed.

September 17, 2008. Sana'a, Yemen. Terrorists dressed as military officials attack the U.S. Embassy with an arsenal of weapons including RPGs and detonate two car bombs. Sixteen people are killed, including an American student and her husband (they had been married for three weeks when the attack occurred). This is the second attack on this embassy in seven months.

Note: the list doesn't include all the attacks on the US consolate in Bagdad. All those poor people killed because Bush did absolutely nothing to stop the attacks. But what do you care? I don't see you demanding that Bush be held accountable.

The MSM only reacts like that when a Republican is involved. People have died because of incompetence and lack of clarity exhibited by this administration. Sweeping their mistakes like Fast & Furious, Benghazi, IRS and now the NSA scandal will only increase under Obama's leadership.
