Source?Unlike his targeted tariffs while he was President, he’s now talking about something orders of magnitude higher. He now wants tariffs on all imports from all countries. He started talking about 10% tariffs but more recently 20% and even mentioned 50%. In addition, he wants to put 60% tariffs on all imports from China.
Sorry, I thought everyone knew this.Source?
Hadn't you heard? People on the left and right get different news from different sources nowadays. The days of a single mainstream media are long past, thanks to most of the media becoming the unpaid propaganda wing of the Dem party.Sorry, I thought everyone knew this.
Source that is not behind a paywall? But Trump’s desire for high tariffs has been consistent. In an interview on Tuesday at the Economic Club of Chicago, he said, “To me, the most beautiful word in the dictionary is ‘tariff.’” As president, he called himself “a Tariff Man.” In fact, he imposed substantial tariffs when in office. Those actions were, however, mild compared with the tariffs he is proposing now. He initially suggested a 10 percent tariff on all imports, but now he talks about tariffs as high as 20 percent. (In Chicago, he even mused about 50 percent.) He wants a 60 percent tariff on imports from China.

There’s no upside to the former president’s pet economic plan.www.nytimes.com
One big benefit (if you are Trump) is that they are mostly borne by the lower and middle classes while they have little impact percentage wise on a billionaire. For a billionaire they are far preferable to income taxes. So you can look at the plan as soak the poor and middle classes and give the wealthy another income tax break. I don’t know if Trump has figured this part out but that is the net impact.Tariffs are probably the single worst form of taxation. Just terrible.
That’s interesting that right wing media is keeping all this from you.Hadn't you heard? People on the left and right get different news from different sources nowadays. It’s all in his speeches that he has given over and over again. I imagine the campaign doesn’t really want to tell you what Trump wants to do so the platform doesn't really tell you anything but he tells us anyway.BTW, I went to the Trump official platform and it mentions tariffs only twice, both in the same paragraph. No mention of exact amounts.
1. Rebalance Trade - Our Trade deficit in goods has grown to over $1 Trillion Dollars a year. Republicans will support baseline Tariffs on Foreign made goods, pass the Trump Reciprocal Trade Act, and respond to unfair Trading practices. As Tariffs on Foreign Producers go up, Taxes on American Workers, Families, and Businesses can come down.

Are you asking for a source about how tariffs work? Why is it when someone mentions raising taxes will mean people will pay more money to meet their tax burden you do not ask for a source? If someone proposes something that means you will get fined if you do not follow speed limits, you need to see a source.Source?
Trumps tariffs proposal is extremely preliminary and will involve negotiations with the exporting country. It's too early to do a detained analysis when you don't even know the assumptions. However the takeaway one should get is: 1) Trump plans on Tariffs as a tax revenue stream for the goverment. 2) Importers will negotiate with exporter on how to cover the cost of the tariffs.
Why is this? He's been touting tariffs for his entire reelection campaign, but he still doesn't have the details ?!!? . . Trump's claims about making other countries pay sounds just about as credible as his bullshit about making Mexico pay for his wall - and we all know how brilliantly that "art of the deal" turned out.Trumps tariffs proposal is extremely preliminary and will involve negotiations with the exporting country. Agreed, he is a good talker, not much of a walker. Why is this? He's been touting tariffs for his entire reelection campaign, but he still doesn't have the details ?!!? . . You are exactly right. Are you asking for a source about how tariffs work? Why is it when someone mentions raising taxes will mean people will pay more money to meet their tax burden you do not ask for a source? If someone proposes something that means you will get fined if you do not follow speed limits, you need to see a source.
I understand wanting to see a source if you hear somebody making a claim that goes against every thing you know about such a claim. But if someone talks about something in a way the whole world understands that this thing works, you should not ask for a source.
It makes you look stupid.
If someone mentions that a proposal that includes raising taxes by 5%, will cost us more in taxes, please do not ask for a source. It does not make you look like a critical thinker
Aren't you saurcyYou are exactly right.
I have just recalled the very old saying: What i source for the goose is source for the gander.
They will, one day, perhaps. If they allow actual history to be taught in schools. They are shying away from that now, but maybe one day Americans will see the benefit of having their children being as knowledgable as children from other, less free, countries.Bottom line, trump is a blithering moron and a horrible businessperson. Every business he touches turns to shit, and he's too stupid to see the damage his tarriffs would cause to the American people, because he doesn't care about the American people, period. I wisj Americans would see him for the freak he is.
Seems he wants to force America to produce its own products. Now that's a romantic 1950's idea but forcing it will cost Americans.
nopeExcessive tariffs are generally a bad idea. About the only time they make sense is when they’re retaliatory, i.e. a targeted counter strike aimed at convincing some other nation to lower unreasonable tariffs applied to American exports,
A fundamental principle to remember: businesses don’t really pay taxes; they collect them. The cost of taxation is almost always born by the consumer.
Raising the price is meant to reduce consumption. Trump is imposing tariffs, in part, to dissuade Americans from buying foreign made products. It's also meant to discourage companies from outsourcing labor. To a lesser degree it gives Trump a political bargaining chip to make exceptions in exchange for back-room concessions. It seems that many people don’t understand that this will increase prices on these goods.
You can get around the paywall. That said stop complaining you don’t need a source to know how tariffs workHadn't you heard? Oh, he’s figured it out all right. The people that haven’t are his supporters. One big benefit (if you are Trump) is that they are mostly borne by the lower and middle classes while they have little impact percentage wise on a billionaire. What were wage and tax rates in the 1950’s?Where does this wisdom go when we discuss corporate tax rates or min wage labor hikes?
