There are many who are upset about the place and date Glenn Beck held his rally. I'm just curious and would like to take a poll (without the poll) I'm tired and I've never made one before.
Assume the Mosque is built at ground zero and they broke ground or opened on Sept 11 of any yr.
You don't have to assume about Glenn. He held his rally the same place, 47 yrs to the date MLK gave his I have a dream speech.

Your feelings are

1) I would be for the mosque and I would be for the rally

2) I would be against the mosque and I would be against the rally

3) I would be for the mosque and against the rally

4) I would be against the mosque and for the rally

5) none or other

6) this is stupid, they are apples and oranges

There is no "mosque at ground zero" nor is there any proposal to build one. Why do people start with a false assumption and expect no one to notice?

The Imam is a moderate. The Cultural Center will serve mainstream American Muslims.

Beck is a fringe talking point machine creating fear-based propaganda as 'infotainment' ginning up the GOP base.

Which one do you think reasonable, thinking people have the biggest problem with??

My answer 8) allowing the Cultural Center represent the best that we can we, while Beck represents the worst, but we still have to let him speak...

If NYC embraces the Cultural Center, they send a strong message to Islamic extremists: "You can not corrupt our values with your hate".

By allowing Beck to speak on the same day as MLK at the same location, we proved that we could endure 4-6 hours of douche chills and mild nausea.

Why? Because the Obama administration told the media to stop calling it that?
It was damaged by a plane on 9/11. That's ground zero
The Mosque part of it is what people are opposing. They are not opposing a Culture Center.

Blah blah blah,

ONE MORE TIME:

There is no "mosque at ground zero" nor is there any proposal to build one. Why do people start with a false assumption and expect no one to notice?

My thoughts are that the nature of the two acts involved - -Beck choosing the MLK site and the Imam choosing the 911 site - -are really quite similar, as both exhibit an in-you-face attitude that certainly turns me off.

Each has the constitutional right, of course, but at does not mean I support either.

Because 2 blocks away from != on != next to.

It's called logical deduction.

It was damaged by a plane on 9/11. That's ground zero

:doh

Using your logic, fuel vapor saturated the buildings on the flight path over lower Manhattajn, might as well call all that ground zero.

In case you haven't remembered, debris travels, especially in a high velocity impact involving a heavy object like a Boeing 767-223ER aircraft. Ground zero SPECIFICALLY refers to, I dunno, WHERE THE TOWERS WERE HIT AND COLLAPSED?

The Mosque part of it is what people are opposing. They are not opposing a Culture Center.

Honestly, it is impossible to tell anymore what anybody wants.

The building is an islamic cultural center and it's not on ground zero. Ground zero is the WTC site. This is "collateral damage" area. The term comes from what we used for nuclear detonation. Ground zero is where the bomb went off, not the entire 20 mile area of blast damage.

I vote 6. The two are not remotely related.

Besides, the mosque opposition is political granstanding. They started the process more than a year ago, but the fervor doesn't kick up until just before election season. SO transparent. Even the reasoning changes: First it was "oh it's hallowed ground you can't build a mosque there!" Now it's "No we only have a problem with the Imam behind it, we don't trust him!"

Funny how Fox News isn't mentioning their own connection with this "shady" Imam. A man they've previously, on the air, praised as being an honorable man.

Also worth noting: Nobody ever had any plans to open/start construction/do anything of interest on September 11. So I'll ask a question in spirit of the OP:

What if conservatives decided America should start issuing hunting licenses for Italians?

That building actually wasn't damaged by a plan on 9/11, it was damaged by debris from the WTC towers. However debris and material from the towers damaged things in a huge radius around the site. Also, members of this Mosque and the muslim community in New York were killed on 9/11, dozens of them in fact. So here's a novel idea, lets give them the same respect we give survivers of other 9/11 victims?

Haven't you read the first amendment?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion*, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Eh, I'm not offended Beck wanted to hold a rally. I'm not offended Beck wanted to hold it at the Lincoln memorial. I'm not offended Beck wanted to hold it on Martin Luther King day. I'm not offended that Beck didn't realize it was MLK day when he scheduled it.

I am, however, offended by some of his comments like, Beck saying he is here to "reclaim the civil rights movement" and "pick up Martin Luther King's dream that has been distorted and lost."

Then Beck said that he disagreed with the fundamental aspect of the Civil Rights movement, which was economic equality. (Video Here) I don't understand how Beck can compare himself to Dr. King, compare his speech and his movement to the "I have a dream" speech and the Civil Rights movement, then go on to criticize MLK. I don't see how Beck can take his own message seriously.

There is already a Mosque in Lower Manhattan. There is a porno-shop around the corner from Ground Zero. I'm not offended that they want to build a community center in an abandoned Burlington Coat Factory. I'm not offended that people are praying there and worshiping there as we speak.

But if Muslims, either Arab, Black or White Muslims, or any American or any immigrant, held a rally on Sept 11, at the direct site of Ground Zero, and used that site and that date to further a strange political message, I would be offended. That's not what's happening. A year ago Fox News congratulated the building of the Muslim Community Center and said it was a good thing. Now they criticize it for political gain.

It's all about this November, nothing more, nothing less.

I don't understand what point you are trying to make.

The asterix with Christianity was a joke about how we love our freedoms except when those darn muslims want the same rights and equal treatment.

To be completely honest, the Beck rally made me step back from the situation in NYC altogether and look at the other political forces that are at work in America. I am surprised that so many people are embroiled in the tit for tat arguments over whether or not Beck's gathering in Washington was worth a damn or not. That really is a side issue.

The forces that brought those people together are relatively new in the American political sphere, and I'm seeing barely anyone stop and realize what that means. It is dangerous to simply write off the event as a group of radicals gathering; likewise, it is dangerous to overpraise it and see none of its flaws. Please, please, please stop and take a harder look at it.
