In short, the longer the Obama presidency continues, the more America's status as a superpower ebbs away.

>" Thanks to President Barack Obama obduracy over his flagship healthcare policy, Democrats and Republicans have failed to reach agreement in Congress on the federal budget, forcing the US Government to close down for the first time in 17 years, with around 700,000 federal workers being placed on indefinite leave.

While the White House insists that essential areas of the government, such as the military, will continue to function, the shut down represents yet a further blow to the prestige of the Obama administration at a time when it is still reeling from its inept handling of the recent Syrian crisis.

There was a time not so long ago when the world looked to America for both political and economic leadership. But now that can no longer be taken for granted thanks to Mr Obama's inability to provide decisive leadership on either front..."<

This has alot more to do with the rise of our competitors than the decline of America. Our GDP increases each year, our military is still the strongest, poverty and crime rates reduce each year, etc; we're doing fine, but other countries are just getting their crap together for once.

The reasoning in that post is very flawed. What you are saying is that other countries are moving forward at a faster pace than the United States. That's the point of the thread, isn't it? Obama is slowing America down to his level of mediocrity.

Historically, it's never been acceptable to Americans to be equal to anyone, we've always been the best. Obama and his shrieking band of America haters are determined to bring the hated America down to the level of everyone else.

That is why the United States is being filled with huge permanent dependency cultures and our nation of soaring eagles and charging lions is becoming a nation of wailing children. We got tolerance though, we got lots of that.

Couldn't it be that we had reached an unsustainable level of growth and now we're going through a snap-back? I'm not really claiming that it's the case, but it's possible. Quite a lot of our economic problems are entirely based on the failing industries themselves. I understand the nature of over-regulation, but I don't see how anyone can fault the government for the failure of our economy, after giving it a trillion dollars. It'd be like going to the bank and them giving you a special interest free loan, and then blaming them for giving you the loan, because you lit the money on fire. It's just a strange concept to me.

There's a level of efficiency at any given level of business, where the other levels suffer; a small amount of inefficiency of each individual can make a much more efficient economy. It's like trains running on tracks; if they run too fast, without gaps, it creates a thousand traffic jams along the way at every intersection; even though the train is much more efficient at transporting the passengers, the total transportation network will run much slower due to it. Away from my train analogy, many of our economic problems are due to over-efficient companies. Many companies can't compete, go out of business, and the entire economy suffers, for the sake of a small handful of companies getting slightly higher profits.

I don't really see Obama as an "America Hater", any more than any other president. The last 20 or so have all been equally self-serving, and I don't think we'll really see a president of the people in my life time.

I fail to see why Obama is responsible for the Republican's childish obstructionist behaviour or Boehner's incompetence to lead his own party.

"...Note that unlike the government shutdowns during the Clinton administration, this one was not prompted by a budgetary disagreement between the two parties. It was provoked by the GOP's unheard of demand that in order to vote for government spending they agree is necessary, the White House had to strip away funding for its health care law.

Also note that the looming showdown over the debt ceiling represents another orchestrated crisis in which the GOP is making unprecedented demands on the president in exchange for their votes for a policy they say they support. Both cases illustrate the folly of trying to blame the White House for failing to engage with Republicans, who have embraced a path of purposefully unsolvable confrontations...."

If both sides agree that the debt ceiling needs to be raised to keep the government from shutting down...then what exactly are the democrats supposed to compromise on?

Obama was able to do something that has eluded the Democrats for decades. So he prooved a heavy internally with Obamacare.
It has true though that internationally it is turning out to be a very big job for a young Senator to fill.

The job of POTUS was bigger than Obama could handle and both the radical left and the Democrat Party discovered that in less than three months after Obama became President.

They put a narcissist and a unqualified and incompetent person in the White house who's only experience was being a agitator. (community organiser)

So what you have in the White House today is a agitator and all you have to do is look at Congress and how divided America is today. Not to mention that the Obama administration is second rate. No leadership, nothing but failure after failure.

I truly believe that the puppet masters behind the curtain may have underestimated American resolve! We are still "soaring eagles" and "charging lions" when we need to be. The permanent dependency cultures who we call "illegal aliens" is an attempt to dilute that resolve! Those who obey the law when seeking entry into the US don't seem to have the problems assimilating and adapting, do they? The wailing we hear is coming from the "gimme" group, and they have learned that the loudest of them seem to be catered to and coddled, so that's why they act like spoiled four-year olds...because it works!

And yes, we are tolerant, but we will only be pushed so far before we say enough!. With our debt at $17 trillion dollars, that "gimme" mentally is becoming unaffordable, and cannot continue. Then what will they, and their nanny-state providers, do? Suddenly expect them to become productive and self sufficient when they may not know how? The moon will turn blue from cold first, IMO!

You are more or less right. But he has been better, than I had feared he could be.
