Banning Guns Due to School Mass Shooting

Here we go again. Another senseless tragedy, and the gun control people are once again coming out of the woodwork, appearing on MSNBC, CNN, the other news networks, and of course, they are on the major networks too. They are demanding gun control as usual, and the usual politicians on both sides of the aisle are agreeing with them.

What is being missed by them? The fact that they are screwing with a Consitutional right? No, they all read the Constitution, so are doing it purposely out of disregard for that document. What they are missing is a fact that has just come out. The serial numbers of the 2 guns used to commit the horrendous act were filed off. The killer obtained the guns through the black market.

So what does this mean? It means that if gun control is enacted and I have to give up my guns, the criminals will still be able to get theirs, and if they see a reason to let me have it, I will be found dead the next day with nothing in my hand, except maybe my dick.

Now, I do not like Charlton Heston's grandstanding one bit, and quit the NRA because of it, and I also don't like how the NRA has become more focused on politics than gun safety, gun education, and other programs which they became known for, but I fully agree with the words Heston said a few years ago, and I will repeat them now.

The second amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees Americans the legal right to bear arms.


I believe this.


But with this should come some restrictions.

You should not have the right to bear arms on my property or anyone elses property that does not want guns. Sometimes there has to be some limitations to freedom. You have to make sure that you dont violate the rights of others if you do carry them. You have to make sure you dont put others at risk.
 


I don't have the right to carry on your property or anyone else's as long as you have it visibly shown that you do not want guns there. As long as you post it, then you are protected.

People have the innate and inalienable right to keep and bear arms, the Constitution merely confirms this as truth

All rights come with the single restriction that you may not infringe upon the rights of others in the process of exercising your rights.


This is already the case. Private property owners can set the rules, and if they do not wish to have firearms on their personal, private property than they are more than free to place that restriction upon visitors on their private property.
 

I agree - but it just feels to early to politicize it for me.
 
Can anyone here honestly guess that if guns were illegal that this particular incident wouldn't have taken place? If the man was psychotic enough to kill 33 people and injure dozens more, do you think he just might be psychotic enough to illegally obtain a weapon to do so?

If you want to rediscuss the gun laws, do so on standard terms, not in a way that exploits emotional wave that comes with a mass shooting rampage.

Not gonna happen.

Certain groups are frothing at the mouth right now, trying to use this to further their agenda, but it [gun ban] will never happen. Our government at least does know better than to try and disarm its populace. They know what hell would be unleashed if they did.

Where did you obtain this as a fact reguarding the black market? Have you considered he may have been trying to hide his identity? After all he did shoot himself in the face. Just my thoughts.....

I do agree with the fact we should hold our rights close to heart, but we need to hold others accountable for their own actions and not to blame others.
 
Last week during the uproar over Imus, conservatives blamed his words on rap music and Dave Chappelle. (Personal responsibility much?)
This week, after the shooting, libs are calling for "re-examining" our gun laws, bcuz of course it was the guns' fault.

I know that I am at least partially crazy, but are there any similarities between the two?

Or are both ends of the spectrum part of the blame someone else crowd?

There is a slight difference between "blaming rap music" for his words and posing the question why I can't say words that others can say.

No, they were bought legally, as the police reported.

I'd be willing to say it's a lot less likely this would have happened after a history of handgun restrictions had been implemented. The history of every developed country shows the same trend and I see nothing special with the US. Even in Canada where the border is wide and open to blackmarket trade with the US, homicide rates are closer to those of Europe than the US. Homicide rates in Canada used to be the same as the US, until handgun restrictions were implemented decades ago. These high homicide rates the US struggles with have been around for centuries and used to be shared by everyone else.

Buying illegal guns would have been a lot more difficult for such a loner. Blackmarket guns are mostly guns stolen from legal owners so they would be harder to get in time as well. According to the FBI, most homicides are typically the result of arguments with a family member, friend, or a recent acquaintance such as in a bar-fight. It's not like the US is more violent than other countries - all other crime is pretty average... crime is just much more likely to result in death in America. It's across the board... even wealthy, white suburban males are 2-3X more likely to commit homicide than even the poorest demographics of other countries.

So we don't need more laws as he was already breaking them. We need if anything better enforcement which is a STATE matter not a federal one. This is NOT a national issue.


As to these people trying to pass anti gun legislation. Go for it. I can't think of a faster way for the dems to lose power.

In any event there are 300 million people in this country millions and millions of whom can own guns and millions that do own guns... legally... and such incidents are extremely uncommon. That it is news is largely a reflection of that.

Gang shootings in LA for example are not news... I don't think they even report it all any more. Another gang banger killed another gang banger... *yawn*... This is news because it generally doesn't happen.
 
Both guns were registered to him. In light of this, your call for enforcing existing laws wouldn't do anything to make such a crime more difficult.

Nor gang-related crime unique to the US. As I previously noted, even the most advantaged demographics in the US are far more likely to commit homicides than any developed country.

Most of the time, it is someone who gets angry and ends up killing people they know. It's true, we have somewhat higher violent crime than the OECD average but we are pretty typical for countries with similarly high poverty (UK, Canada, Australia). It's our homicide rates that are off the charts.

Anyways, that was just part of what they were saying, basically as Oreilly is constantly arguing, that rap music and the culture it has developed are to blame bcuz in essence they are the ones who brought those words to the general public and made people think that it was alright to use those words.
 
If the serial numbers were filed off, he did it, and who the hell can even fathom what was going through his demented psyche?? Read his 'plays'. There should have been someone in the staff that tried to get that guy counseling, he obviously had some sort of issues. This wasn't a typical case. There weren't really any warning signs. Not like he had made threats, or bragged about it, like the Columbine kids. He kept to himself, and then just snapped. He legally purchased the weapons and a good size quantity of ammunition which the clerk said wasn't 'unusual', which makes you wonder what would have constituted an unusual purchase. I think that the salesman should have asked anyways. I know when I sell things, I always engage my customer in conversation with regards to his/her purchase. He might have dragged some sort of clue out of the guy. "What range are you going to use". "What made you choose the Glock over the Beretta?" Things like that. Now, I'm not dropping the blame anywhere but squarely on the shoulders of the killer. That is where it belongs, and no amount of new laws or invasive psyche evals for weapons purchase is going to stop things like that. The laws are only as good as the society that enforces them. If he didn't legally purchase them, there are countless places in Virginia to purchase them, believe me.
 
The teacher actually did mention this to the right channels.
And what if he said "none of your business"? Because you know... it isn't any of your business.
