Banksy's painting Game Changer has today sold for a record £14.4m (£16.7m with fees) at Christie's in London against its estimate of £2.5m-£3.5m. All of the hammer price will be donated by the artist to help support health organizations and charities across the Britain that enhance the care and treatment provided by the National Health Service.
This work is far from Banksy's best, in my opinion. The idea is rather good that a small boy would see a nurse as much a hero as Batman and other heroes but he has not quite got the proportions right. The boy's head is too big and his hair is not like any I have seen on a boy. I believe the work is below Banksy's standard and consequently, perhaps the winning bid went so high is due to the understanding that the money will go to charity.
