It would seem many more American voters kept track of the Kavanaugh hearings than I would have supposed, and in spite of the feminists promise of enraged "revenge" for confirmation of his nomination, a daunting backlash has energized Republican red state voters - so much so they may well keep control of the Senate (but not likely the house).

Arizonia - McSalley (R) jumps to substantial lead for the first time in weeks.
North Dakota - Heitkamp (D) looks to be nine point under toast.
Montana - Incumbent Testor (D) race is now rated a "tossup" (Cook Report).
Nevada - Heller (R) now slightly ahead in two most recent polls.
Tennessee - Blackburn (R) now pulling ahead substantially.
Missouri - McCaskill (D) it tight race, now slightly behind in polls.
Florida - Rick Scott (R) neck and neck with incumbent Nelson (D).
Texas - O-Rourke (D) far behind Cruz (R).

Absent an "October surprise" by the MSM and Mueller Team, it looks good for the GOP to keep the Senate.

Looks like Kavanaugh hearings have been an unmitigated disaster for Democrats - what a turn-around.​

I take polling with a grain of salt since 2016. The only poll that counts is Nov 6.I don't trust pollster telling me something is a sure thing.

I think Americans generally despise underhanded slimy political tactics. I'm praying for a leftist complete lose.
 

I have been giving the GOP at least 54 Senate seats. The Democrats Kavanaugh/Ford debacle solidifies it.
 

I don't see it that way at all.

Trump was always going to be able to find some women to attack, some black man taking a knee, some Muslim to hate, some Latino who doesn't agree with him, something to scare the already fearful with. Then make racist and/or sexist attacks. And voila! The base is energized:

It is what "they" say, eh? Well, even if true then given your only example, you have found a new low in the literature of the social pseudo sciences. This so-called study is little more than charting opinion shifts and then judging opinions themselves as moralistically vile (e.g. racist).

Whether or not the researcher believed that Trump supporters were actually left behind, or if she thinks those who voted for Trump were the dominate group whose status was threatened, the voting shifts (in groups that had voted for Obama in much larger numbers than they voted for Hillary) doesn't show anything about racism or even group status. It merely shows that Trump spoke to a constituency that had long felt ignored and demeaned (especially for their populist views) by both parties, some of whom had voted for Obama. Hillary garnered less trust than Obama, and was one of the 'elites' the populists loathed.

In the sociology of change NONE of this requires racism; all it requires is the universal impulse of mankind to be highly disturbed by changes (and insults) to tradition, mores, habits, religion, and customs. It has nothing to do with status, it has to do with a sense of loss of community and opportunity. All of it quite valid in the slowest recovery in economic history.


Hell, if you like you can look at black turnout numbers and conclude Trump's victory was due to black racism - there was a -4.2 percent drop in black turnout, even more so in those two or three pivotal blue states that went to Trump. If they had turned out, Hillary would have won. So ergo, are we too conclude it was due to black racial bigotry that Trump won?
