The Zika virus has claimed the life of a Texas baby, health officials reported Tuesday.

The baby, whose mother had traveled to Latin America during her pregnancy, died shortly after birth. The infant was born with microcephaly, a condition in which a baby's head is abnormally small and, in most cases, brain development is incomplete.

The baby was born in Harris County, which includes Houston. It's the first Zika-related death in Texas.

And there are about 1,000 cases now in the US. And Congress is still on vacation. When you go to the polls in November, vote for a Republican congressman if the incumbent is a Democrat, and vote for a Democratic congressman if the incumbent is a Republican. There is absolutely no excuse for doing nothing. These sons of bitches all need to be fired. Every damn one of them.

Doing nothing? Didn't Congress pass a bill for Zika funding that Obama vetoed? What is it you expect them to do?

It's Texas so you can't rule out that this was due to inbreeding.

Where's the inbreeding? I don't see it. Houston is very hi-tech. Dallas is one of America's financial capitals. San Antonio has a great military base. College Station has Texas A & M...... Oops, you could be right.

My bad, you're correct. The House passed a bill, but it was blocked by Senate Democrats, not Obama.

Republicans loaded that bill with poison pills. That's why it was blocked.

It was still the Democrat's choice to block it, and now they're blaming Republicans. Typical political nonsense.

Lmao, this is pretty dishonest even for you. Republicans tried to "pass" it while using it to defund other programs. They sunk their ship just to kill another ship's captain and got absolutely nothing accomplished.

Nope: Republicans purposely put an amendment into the bill which would have defunded Planned Parenthood, knowing that the Democrats would vote against it. Republicans also purposely put an amendment into the bill which would have gutted funding for the EPA, knowing that Democrats would vote against it. IMHO, holding babies hostage to these kinds of demands is both evil and sick.

This is why, if **** is a matter of PUBLIC SAFETY AND HEALTH - a bill should be REQUIRED to go through without any damned pork. Just the EMERGENCY MEASURE basics.

Priorities on both camps are all ****ed up.

Only a piggish person looks at an emergency fund effort to help intervene on the spread of a horrible disease would try to take advantage of it. When my kids try to take advantage of a situation in that manner they get in trouble.

Everything's a choice and every group has priorities. You're on the side of the Democrats this instance. Its all politics, same **** different day.

I think all bills should be standalone, especially funding bills.

But they did pass a bill, so anyone saying they need to pass a bill for Zika funding is being dishonest. A bill was passed by the House that the Senate Democrats couldn't/wouldn't live with.

Thanks for the insult. Good to see some things here are always consistent.

If you get insulted when your arguments are being called dishonest when they clearly are you shouldn't be on a debate forum.

That stated, you continue being purposely dishonest. Republicans created an omnibus that had no hope of passing when all they had to do was create a bill addressing zika and zika alone. When you ignore that so that you can claim that Democrats didn't want to pass a zika bill - your argument IS dishonest.

Republicans could have provided a bill addressing the zika issue and not every other program they wanted to defund. They didn't. It's on them.

Sent from a flower watered by the tears of Trump supporters and crazy newb liberals.

Sorry, but being called dishonest by a partisan hack is no indication of anything, debate site or not.

The fact remains that a bill was passed by the House that contained funding for Zika. Fact.

The same bill was blocked by The Democrat's in the Senate because they didn't like the other provisions in the bill. Fact.

This is business as usual, and it happens every damn day. I would rather see standalone funding bills, but at the end of the day it's all about the choices each group makes.

I had to dig it up to see exactly what you were referencing.

Public Law No: 114-146 (04/19/2016)

(This measure has not been amended since it was reported to the Senate on March 15, 2016. The summary of that version is repeated here.)

Adding Zika Virus to the FDA Priority Review Voucher Program Act

(Sec. 2) This bill amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to add Zika virus disease to the list of tropical diseases under the priority review voucher program, which awards a voucher to the sponsor of a new drug or biological product that is approved to prevent or treat a tropical disease. (A voucher entitles the holder to have a future new drug or biological product application acted upon by the Food and Drug Administration within six months.)

The bill makes a technical correction to the tropical disease list to refer to filovirus disease, a condition caused by the family of viruses that includes the Ebola virus, instead of the family of viruses.

I am on the side of whoever does not load a bill with poison pills with the intention of it not passing so they can blame the other side. I gave the Democrats hell when they did this while Bush was in office. But saying this to a partisan hack is just going to fall on deaf ears, I am sure.

Silly Moon, complains about being insulted for having his arguments be exposed for being dishonest - proceeds to call people partisan hacks instead of defending his absurdly dishonest argument. As predictable as a sunrise. Republicans had a change to pass a Zika bill and they held Zika as a hostage to defund a whole bunch of unrelated programs.

Their approach was dishonest and defending it by saying that Democrats opposed a zika bill when it wasn't just a zika bill remains equally dishonest.

Don't like it? Get a less transparent argument.

Good thing you aren't responding to a political hack, then.

Congress can't stop people from using drugs. How on earth is it supposed to solve the Zika issue? Throwing $ at it will solve nothing. Government can do only certain things--it cannot solve all problems.

That's because you are a good parent. Maybe the American people need to start acting like good parents to the babies that reside in Congress.
