Missing Assistant Director of Corrections Vicki White broke protocol when she escorted inmate Casey White from jail this morning to apparently take him to the courthouse in Lauderdale County, said Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton. The inmate and the corrections officer are not related.
Authorities said Casey White was being held on capital murder charges and two sworn deputies should have been with him at all times, including during transportation to court. Vicki White coordinates all transports from the detention center to court and therefore knew the protocol, the sheriff added.
Singleton said that although Casey White was supposedly being transported for a mental health evaluation at the courthouse, they have since learned that no such evaluation or other court hearing for him was scheduled for Friday.

--

Isn't this a curious case?

There are, IMO, two big 'tells'.

1] The corrections officer broke protocol; protocol she knows well, as she's in charge of implementing it!

2] If I'm reading this correctly, it appears there was no court hearing scheduled!

--

I think Officer Vicki White may have,

1] 'Fallen in love'.

or,

2] Received one heck of a bribe.

or

3] Been extorted.

And here's a picture of two, for those interested:

BTW - She is apparently 'retirement eligible', after a career of 25 years, and was discussing retiring within several months.

Falling in love is such a beautiful thing.

What a story for the grandkids!

You know though, as I researched & composed my OP, and found she was ready to retire (from a yet 3rd article!), it gave me a bit of pause with my earlier thoughts of a romantic entanglement.

So I added 'extortion' to my earlier first two hypothesis (love/money).

She would have to really be head-over-heals to walk away from a government pension!

I'm going for option #1. Not my cup of tea, but there's no accounting for taste.

That's my highest suspicion, too.

But, I'm still perplexed about her leaving her retirement pension behind - if that's the case.

Thing is: If she is so easily blinded by sex & romance at this unbelievable cost, how could she exercise judgement & authority over inmates for the past quarter century?

I would say she's crazy too. But I believe its happened before at least once? I can't explain it. Look at all the crazy things men do for 'love'.

It would be beyond stupid to throw away your entire career and freedom for a relationship with a murderer.

But, people have done it. I would be surprised if this turns out to be a traditional escape during a transfer.

Another option is the convict lured her into a relationship, used her for escape, then "gets rid of her".

The year I worked at a prison, I had a lot of training before hand. The thing that was hammered into my head over and over was not to get personally involved with an inmate. Apparently it happens all the time, according to them. It's obviously a huge security factor.

Hope you're wrong, but yeah, that's a distinct possibility.

Love can make people do really stupid things. Then throw in that inmate's can be experts manipulating people to their benefit.

Hope they find them quickly and the officer is okay.

Yeah, "Crazy in love!" :p

Yeah, both men & women have been known to be blinded by feelings, desires, & emotions! We see it every day among family & friends, and there's not one of us that has not had a prior relationship where we look back, & realize we could have used better judgement to at least some degree. It's human nature, I think!

But yes, you are right in that I remember a similar corrections case several years ago; I believe it was on the mid to upper East Coast.

The craziest example I've seen of women getting head-over-heels to their disadvantage, was in the case of a middle-aged gigilo that conned affluent older-women out of their life savings across the nation! One of his marks was an older psychiatrist who - get this - specialized in relationship counseling! And he took her to the cleaners!

I was watching it as a TV documentary, and my first thought was - how can she give professional advice?

Exactly. And that Lori Vallow, who's kids were killed. Now I think she may actually be a little insane, but still.

But, it was not 'a transfer'.

She broke protocol by taking him herself on what has been found to be a fictitious trip to a non-existent court hearing. And, her job at the facility is to arrange & coordinate these trips.

Another option is the convict lured her into a relationship, used her for escape, then "gets rid of her".

Yes, there's that.

It's also possible he extorted her, either through enticing her into illegal activity, or threats from the outside.

Right.

Despite my more flippant use of the term, "crazy in love", I do agree there is likely an unbalance with those that succumb to such a high degree as the cases we're discussing.

I think most everyone has the potential to do some crazy things for love, but not to this level. I can't imagine being sucked in by some guy who's in jail for murder. But that's just me. Women fall in 'love' with convicted murderers all the time.

Just as crazy, IMO, is jailhouse 'pen-pal' marriages!

How lonely must a person be, to marry a lifer behind bars who's writing you letters?

Just goes to show: "There's someone for everyone!"

And the women that write to inmates and even marry them are the ones I had in mind.
