The East India Tea company was basically the government. At certain concentrations of wealth, the two are not easily distinguishable. Take a look at the space Samsung occupies in South Korea as a modern example.
Heck, even the algorithms that match a consumer to product on things like Amazon or AWS are a modern and successful example of central planning. It serves exactly the same function that gosplan did. This isn’t an either/or proposition.
There are plenty of examples of companies doing the calculations of profit vs harm their product can cause.
A Whatabout doesn’t change that.
I picked up that Objectivism a philosophy that allows for sociopaths to not have to do a bit of self reflection.I get it, you picked up nothing from reading the book. Thats ok, it’s not for everyone.
Thank you. I think we agree market capitalism has, far and away, the best record of improving the human condition worldwide than any other economic system known to man. The only difference is that I'm willing to say it openly. This isn’t an either/or proposition.

Samsung basically is the government in South Korea, a society that is currently in the process of failing (look at birth rates) and it is failing due to hyper capitalistic social dislocation and alienation due to the work culture."And capitalist exploitation of the third world has also killed millions."
Please explain how Samsung fits into this.
Why not self deport? Or disappear? Live off the land. You don't need the heavy chains of society and the infrastructure/support that comes with it.The IRS. They sent me a letter: Pay up or go to prison. Since I prefer my freedom over the money, I pay up.
Man. That is quite a stretch.I think she's saying that when Marxist Socialist experiments fail they do so with great collateral damage.
For example, depending on the analysis you read, Mao's communist system resulted in the deaths of between 15 to 45 million people in the 1950s and 1960s. Do you think the failings of that system meant those people were "deserving of death?"
There is enough for one to reasonably criticize Rand without having to rely on misinterpretations of her book.
US State sponsored anti communist actions have killed a lot of people. And capitalist exploitation of the third world has also killed millions. There’s blood on both sides.
Ayn Rand didn’t like mixed economies. There is a difference between socialism and something that is socialized. And given Marxist socialism's track record, I've already been too kind in this thread. When put into practice, it's nothing less than a human sausage grinder.
The US is heading more towards Ayn Rand’s dream than not… well half of the dream…. The rich libertarian anti government tech bros are going to get paid a lot of government money.Thank you. I think we agree market capitalism has, far and away, the best record of improving the human condition worldwide than any other economic system known to man. The only difference is that I'm willing to say it openly.
The Cheabols are basically a modern Korean form of feudalism.Samsung basically is the government in South Korea, a society that is currently in the process of failing (look at birth rates) and it is failing due to hyper capitalistic social dislocation and alienation due to the work culture.
I just wish people would be honest about the benefits and problems of capitalism and shed either/or thinking. Every ism has problems and we will not come up with better ideas until people are honest. Capitalism is a great source of innovation and technology but it has killed millions through things like pollution, artificial scarcity, monopolization, government corruption, etc. I mean look at what the Koch’s did against mass transit systems and the harm that caused. The Cheabols are basically a modern Korean form of feudalism.
We had that system back in the late 1800s.Thank you. I think we agree market capitalism has, far and away, the best record of improving the human condition worldwide than any other economic system known to man. The only difference is that I'm willing to say it openly.
And capitalist exploitation of the third world has also killed millions. There’s blood on both sides.
I think you'll find most of that was, ultimately, at the hands of authoritarian governments and not a product of market forces. The East India Company, for example, did not compete in a market.
You've not addressed the point. Read my post again.Samsung basically is the government in South Korea, a society that is currently in the process of failing (look at birth rates) and it is failing due to hyper capitalistic social dislocation and alienation due to the work culture.
She is not saying that. You've misunderstood that part of the book.saying that everyone who is on the train deserves to die…
Sorry, no. The size and scope of the federal government has been going in only one direction for the last 60 years: bigger. The US is heading more towards Ayn Rand’s dream than not… well half of the dream…. The rich libertarian anti government tech bros are going to get paid a lot of government money.
No it is a world like ours where fake social BS runs rampant and destroys productive society. It is a hot peace on socialism. Well deserved.Nah... it is about how a person who creates a civilization changing technology of free energy who can't stand simply being a billionaire but must be a trillionaire so he goes off and creates a sci fi valley where his industrialist wanker friends can live like the sociopaths that they are.
I believe it is entirely reasonable for someone to earn ten times -- or even a thousands of times -- more than "other competent" folks and I don't believe in supermen. I do believe in value creation and in markets, and that's enough.
Sorry, no. The size and scope of the federal government has been going in only one direction for the last 60 years: bigger.
Reread my reply. You've not addressed the point. Read my post again.
Then what is the point? She is not saying that. You've misunderstood that part of the book.
It has been heading in the direction where the richest among us get richer and richer from sucking at the government teat.Sorry, no. The size and scope of the federal government has been going in only one direction for the last 60 years: bigger.
Dude... in the book John Galt creates a free energy engine. No it is a world like ours where fake social BS runs rampant and destroys productive society. It is a hot peace on socialism. Well deserved.
Lex Luthor had the ethics to move Lexcorp into a blind trust when he became President... so....It seems like you believe in Lex Luthor, not Superman. Lex Luthor is a job creator.
