This is my opinion, religion is the bane of humanity. How many countless deaths are due to religious beliefs? How much hatred is directed from one religious group to another with differing opinions as to who god is? Our politics are now filled with religion being used as a weapon against those who don't believe as if not believing in a god makes you a lesser person than one who believes.

So, what if everyone on earth was an atheist? No arguments over god, no killing over god and no religion in politics. Would that be a bad thing.

Don't know about answers or genesis other than the band. What I do know is this. The americans who cry about sharia law, would love to impose religious laws of their own versions on all of america. Mike Pence is one.

Imagine.

No, religion is merely just another way of expressing the bane of humanity. That can also be done through sports, ever hear of soccer hooliganism. Politics is another example you only need to listen to some of the extreme right and left in america to get that.

But in all these examples of sport, politics or religion the majority are quite sane, peaceful people. It is always a minority few who create a bad name for all.

Once again it needs to be pointed out that atheism is absolutely nothing more than a lack of a belief in a god. It does not dictate how i respond to the world. I could be an atheist and still enjoy smashing shop windows after watching my team loose a game. Or i could be an atheist and a frothing at the mouth commie who hates all americans or an american republican. Or i could be a theist and do all these things.

And yet, how many people are in jail not due to religion, but due to ridiculous crime laws that have led to mass incarceration among the african american community for victimless crime? You want to use this as an example, and yet, the problems with the criminal justice system is not new to anyone here, much less the many atheists lawyers who see this for themselves and often caught ranting on TV about it.

You think it was the religions themselves ? No. Religion was an excuse. People would still be assholes and find other excuses to kill each other. Pol Pot, Stalin, Idi Amin, Black slavery, genocide of native Americans, or Armenians? Nothing to do with religion.

I said 'many'. That's a subjective statement. If I showed you, for example, that my family lawyer is atheist, well, that may not mean much to you because you probably live around a bunch of lawyers in say, New York, or San Fran, and everyone knows lawyers in those cities are very religious; like, it's no comparison, i admit. Atheist lawyers are only a thing in small town texas, you know? No atheist lawyers in cali, zip.

Religion is groupthink.

Conflict, injustice and hatred are an unfortunate part of humanity which most likely has to do with our animal nature and not any particular ideology mankind dresses up in.

1 John 5:19 tells us why..."We know that we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one."

Satan has power over the world...he influences humans to be as selfish, greedy, and shortsighted as he is...what better way to deceive people into doing his will, than to have us blame God for all badness?

Death can come at any time, with no belief in a hope of an afterlife. No worries of eternal damnation.
No real purpose except to fill the needs of one's self.

Everybody lives for the moment - seize the moment - after all, atheists got to make the most of what they believe is their one and only shot at life.

To those who feel deprived (of anything they think they're deprived of).......will they simply be satisfied at such an existence?

Atheists are vastly under-represented in prison entry statistics. Christians, at least in America, are vastly over-represented. Being religious doesn't make you less likely to be a criminal.
