This is a great story!

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The three men in the back seat were supposed to be ready for battle.

They were waiting for a phone call that would launch a daring and dangerous crime, sending them charging through the front door of a Mexican drug ring's stash house to steal 50 pounds or more of cocaine from three armed guards. Their plan was to disguise themselves as police officers, tie up the guards, and slip away with a half-million dollars worth of drugs. If tying them up didn't work, they'd kill them all.

Only the small army of federal agents watching them knew that it was all a lie.

There was no house. No drugs.

And the only things waiting for them when the call came were a team of camouflaged federal agents with rifles and stun grenades, and the promise of a long prison sentence for a plot to steal and re-sell non-existent cocaine.

So if I am reading this right they make claims there are these drug stashes, encourage and plan out robberies with them and bust them when they show up at the house.Sounds like entrapment. Its one thing leaving a parked car in a place to see if random people will try to steal it and its another thing to tell someone about the parked car, encourage that person to steal it and go help them plan it out.

That's exactly what it is.

Yet another excess and abuse of power spawned by the war on drugs.

Yet another example of deceptive practices by the federal agencies. :doh

These are the same tactics federal agencies employ in the War On Terror. Before the War On Terror is the War On Drugs.

What's sad is how the media never questions it, and thus how many ordinary folk are taken in by the deception.

i read this in the weekend edition just yesterday. seems to be obvious entrapment. these dealers were approached, groomed, and then led into more severe criminal activity that they were not planning to commit on their own. that's entrapment.

it's completely different from a situation in which the cops detect someone trying to hatch a bombing plot and then offer fake explosives. in that case, the intent to commit the crime was already there. that's a proper sting operation; this is not.

It's no wonder our jails are so full of drug offenders that there is no room left for the thieves.

True enough, but it's a very fine line between proper and improper.

These days with the Wars On Drugs and Terrorism, stings have become a large part of the police activity. Unnecessary stings and improper.

i don't disagree that many of the stings probably cross the line. however, this current drug sting undeniably crosses the line.

Which is why we need a no victim no crime amendment.

Then again the ATF is an unconstitutional agency to begin with.

The DEA handles drug enforcement. The only drug the ATF deals with is alcohol. They must have been planning an alcohol raid?

This is not only entrapment, but fraud. The use of nonexistent drugs in the place of real drugs is clearly intended to deceive the non-governmental participants in order to further the government's agenda. Guess what the definition of fraud is?

Fraud
Noun
1.Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.
2.A person or thing intended to deceive others, typically by unjustifiably claiming or being credited with accomplishments or qualities.

Huh, fits both of them pretty nicely.
