Astronomers may have found giant alien 'megastructures' orbiting star near the Milky Way | World | News | The Independent

1480 light years away, between Cygnus and Lyrae. ~20% of the light from this star gets blocked out for periods ranging from 5 to 80 days. Considering that large planets typically only block out around 1%, whatever is doing this is almost certainly not a planet. I'm also pretty sure that a planet that large would cause a significant wobble on the host star that would've been detected already.

"Over the duration of the Kepler mission, KIC 8462852 was observed to undergo irregularly shaped, aperiodic dips in flux down to below the 20% level."

So it's either a huge family of comet or planet fragments in an irregular elliptical orbit, or ET and his buddies are part way done building a Dyson Sphere
(technically, this was 1480 years ago, so "were part way done" would be more accurate).

The latter scenario is both awesome and kinda terrifying to think about.

I think we should wait until more information is revealed and not give in to knee jerk reactions.

But that's probably just me.

What kind of fun is that?

Well, let's see what happens in January when they point the radio telescopes at it. If we get another "WOW" signal, then this could be as Trump would say... HUGE.
