Askold Krushelnycky's gripping front line dispatch exposes the grim reality of its war with Russia

1/16/19
Askold Krushelnycky spent Christmas at a Forward Operating Base with Ukrainian forces 10 miles north east of the port city of Mariupol on the Azov Sea The forces, away from their families in freezing conditions dodging bullets and mortars say they try to make the time as special as they can.

You can accompany a British tabloid reporter to a small UA FOB of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) in Sektor M (Mariupol). Here, the destroyed small seaside town of Shyrokyne separates government forces just west of here from Russian forces in Novoazovsk, about 19 clicks to the east.

Isn't that the famous Nazi battalion in Mariupol? Stepan Banderas hero worshippers? Yes, indeedy!

America should have stopped Putin in his tracks in his invasion of Ukraine in 2014, especially since America had promised to protect Ukraine from Russia in the Budapest Memorandum of 1994. In the Budapest Memorandum America had agreed to offer protections to Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine giving up its arsenal of nuclear weapons. Obama ignored the agreement and gave Putin a green light. Trump would never have given Putin a green light to invade Ukraine and yet the lying leftist liberals claim Trump is in Putin's pocket. Perhaps the deluded lefties are looking at the wrong president in Putin's pocket.

The OP isn't for Russians. Sorry, should have left a disclaimer.

The Budapest Memorandum was never a security guarantee. But Ukraine did get screwed. From my pov, Ukraine should reacquire a nuclear deterrent.

This from the liberal lefty Guardian:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/02/neo-nazi-groups-recruit-britons-to-fight-in-ukraine

Neo-Nazi groups involved in the fighting in Ukraine are actively seeking to recruit British far-right activists, a leading anti-fascist watchdog has warned.

At least two Britons are thought to have travelled to the war-torn eastern European country in recent months after encouragement by people linked to the Azov battalion, a notorious Ukrainian fascist militia, according to Hope Not Hate.

The warning comes only four days after the outgoing head of UK counter-terrorism policing, Mark Rowley, revealed that four far-right terror plots had been foiled in 2017 and extreme right groups were seeking to build international networks.

According to Hope Not Hate, a group named the Misanthropic Division, which is linked to the Azov battalion, is working with representatives of UK-based far-right groups, including the proscribed terror organisation National Action and a London-based Polish ultra-nationalist group, to recruit activists to travel to Ukraine.

Great to see the OP linking to the Daily Mail - a trashy pro Brexit anti liberal publication.

RV certainly has acquired some strange bed-fellows in his eulogising of anti Russian Ukrainian groups.

The Azov Battalion no longer exists. It hasn't for some time.

Please fail again.

You've fallen for one of RV's, shall we say, less accurate comments (others might say 'lies') You should be more careful.

It certainly does exist, its old military wing incorporated into the Ukrainian army and given its own regiment and a nice new name, and its political wing now launched - the Azov National Corps. But Azov has also formed a new paramiitary wing called National Militia.

If you want to find out more from one of your own propaganda organs, try this RFE article. You might then take more care to distance yourself from people who are so anti Russian that they may support neo-nazi groups in Ukraine.

Following a 2015 deal known as the Minsk Accords that was meant to be a road map to end the fighting but did little more than turn down the intensity, the Azov Battalion was officially incorporated into Ukraine's National Guard and its leadership shifted focus from the battlefield to the political arena.

The Azov National Corps entered the political fray in October 2016, appointing battalion commander Andriy Biletsky to lead it. Biletsky was previously tied to other far-right groups and, in 2010, reportedly said that the nation's mission was to "lead the white races of the world in a final crusade...against Semite-led Untermenschen [subhumans]."

the National Corps' inaugural ceremony arguably had pomp more reminiscent of 1930s Germany than of postwar democracy. It included nationalist chants, raised fists, and a torchlit march through central Kyiv.

In January, in another flashy ceremony, Azov introduced a new paramilitary force that it calls the National Militia. On a snowy evening, some 600 of mostly young men in matching fatigues marched from Kyiv's central Independence Square to a lighted fortress on a hillside in the Ukrainian capital, where they swore an oath to clean the streets of illegal alcohol, drug traffickers, and illegal gambling establishments.

While not officially part of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry or any other government body legally authorized to enforce the law, the National Militia has more often than not been allowed to establish what it considers "Ukrainian order" on the streets of cities across the country. In many cases, that has meant attacking LGBT events and Romany camps, actions for which members of the group have not been prosecuted.

Combined, these groups are known as the "Azov movement," which includes more than 10,000 active members, according to Semenyaka.

TRANSLATION : The AZOV Battalion, which had neo-nazis comprising 10-20% of a 600 man complement has been absorbed into a 250,000+ man army making them a sliver of a fraction of a percentage of the whole.

This does not prevent the Putin Protection System from crowing about them non-stop as if they matter.

"A rose by any other name would smell the same." Don't ya' know? Tell the fieldmouse to pay attention. BOTS by any other name.

Why did you ignore this bit? Doesn't fit the narrative does it? :

As usual DaveFagan gets it 100% wrong.

Azov was a VOLUNTEER unit.

Azov consisted of at most 10-20% of at most 600 men. (For the mathematically challenged 60-120).

Azov was absorbed into the whole of the Ukraine armed forces and no longer exists as its own entity.

60-120 members of a 250,000 force....

Do the math.

And the AZOV Battalion does not exist any more.

Your boogie man no longer exists...

And attacks on LGBT?

Isn't this your take on that?

Chechen affairs are a matter for Chechens not Americans, and to be frank, nobody cares what you think. You go on with your glorification and promotion of homosexuality, transgenderism etc. That's your right.

But in Russia we have a proper democracy. Kadyrov is a popular leader supported by the vast majority of Chechens. Americans get no say in anything.

End of.

Why do you keep referring to Fledermaus by that term?

From time to time you suspect a mouse about, all you ever notice are the little brown droppings.
