The UK has decided that it won't offer asylum to persecuted Pakistani Christian woman Asia Bibi, who was imprisoned for a decade on Death Row, after her neighbors charged her with blasphemy against Islam:

Britain has not offered asylum to a Pakistani Christian woman freed after eight years on death row for blasphemy because of fear it would prompt “unrest” in the UK and attacks on embassies, her supporters claim.

Asia Bibi and her family had appealed for sanctuary in Britain after her conviction was quashed by Pakistan's supreme court.

The acquittal of the 53-year-old Catholic farmworker prompted days of demonstrations by hardline Islamist parties in Pakistan who had campaigned for her to be hanged.

The mother-of-five remains hidden in Pakistan after Imran Khan's government agreed to allow a petition against the court decision, as part of a deal to halt the protests.

A UK campaign group in touch with the family said the British government was working to help Asia Bibi, but had stopped short of offering asylum.

So the UK govt doesn't want Asia Bibi on British soil on the worry that there could be a violent reaction from people inside Britain.

So basically, Britain seems to be bending over and bowing to Islamist sentiments.

In 1772, William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield, and Judge in Somerset v. Stewart decided a case that set free a fugitive slave on British soil, and held that the institution of slavery had no support within the Common Law. And despite all the blowback it was considered the correct decision then as it is now. How far Britain has fallen that it must kowtow to the worst elements within its society and the world over. I do not think it is safe to presume that Great Britain is a free country any longer. d

It would be a shame if she isn't granted asylum on the basis some within Britain (and I'm sure in this case we're just talking about England) may not be happy about it. At some point you have to make it clear what the values of your society are, lest you be ruled by violent minorities.

If she can get to Mexico and get in the caravan she can get effectively get asylum in the USA with 100% certainty, even if asylum were to be ultimately denied in 6 or 7 years. Just don't go back to court.

Naw.. the UK rarely gives asylum to anyone. They have also denied asylum to abused trafficed kids under 15.. so this is nothing new.

Europe is very hypocritical when it comes to granting asylum.

1) So the UK is now "Europe"?
2) Someone supporting the Dorito in the WH, should not be "throwing stones in a glass house"...

Yes, it is. So is Denmark...

Chances of asylum in Denmark

Again.. Denmark and the UK are not all of "Europe".. you cant have it both ways, complaining over the Muslim invasion and then say we dont take in asylum seekers. And for the record, I dont agree with Danish asylum policy now or the last 40 years.
