The University of North Texas Health Science Center built a flourishing business using hundreds of unclaimed corpses. It suspended the program after NBC News exposed failures to treat the dead and their families with respect.

This is batshit crazy. What was the UNT Health Science Center thinking??
 
Wow…that’s pretty damn egregious.


Personally, I encourage individuals that do not have religious or personal beliefs otherwise to be organ donors and to donate their bodies to science and education when they no longer need them and have passed.

But for any organization to simply take bodies and do this to them without consent is WAY beyond the line.

Individuals that do not have family, etc should be ASKED THEIR WISHES as to what they would like to happy to their body after death. That way we can be sure that we are abiding their personal and religious beliefs and wishes. The option of donating their body to science should definitely be given to them - because we do need human bodies for medical students and scientists to study.

But this? No.

In contrast, the University of Nebraska Medical School, Omaha only accepts body donations from family. The donations are considered sacred and are treated with due respect, as the individual is giving their last full measure for the benefit of humanity. At the end of each year, there is an on-campus memorial service for the individuals and the family and medical faculty and students attend.
 

Bidness is bidness, In 16/17th century Britain only the bodies of hanged criminals were legally available to anatomists teaching Dr's their trade. Due to the lack of bodies, a trade grew up in "Resurrectionists" who would visit a fresh grave after the funeral and sell on the body, no questions asked. Two Edinburgh resurrectionists Burke and Hare, took this a step further and began murdering people off the streets to further increase the supply with less effort on their part. I rank these people alongside them.
 
Mixed feelings on the examples in the article. This can only happen to the body of the deceased if their families didn’t care enough about them in life. Something tells me they only care now that they can use the corpse as the basis of a lawsuit.
 
I am having myself sent for ballistics testing.

Traditional Catholic weddings, because that's what our wives wanted, and Mama raised no fools. No. We're a little odd sometimes, but we're not stupid. Give her the wedding she wants.

Neither of our wives are practicing Catholics, they just wanted the big showy weddings. So why not?

My mother willed her body to science at one of the Dallas colleges. They were very thoughtful, and after they were finished with their research they sent me her ashes.

That's my plan for myself. In legal writing too.
