One should notice a trend if they follow politics ... it gets closer and closer as the day approaches.
The day before will be "the closest race in history" regardless of reality.
The day after will be calls for banning the electoral college.

The best we perhaps can hope for is an election in which both the popular vote and the vote of the Electoral College produce the same winner.
