Another way to think of the distinctions between these two opposing systems is this: Capitalism is what happens when free and peaceful people are left alone. In that sense, it’s natural and spontaneous. Socialism is nothing more than the presumptuous plans of bullies and know-it-alls who impose their plans at gunpoint. In that sense, it’s unnatural, contrived, arbitrary and officious.

Socialists are math-challenged: They’re good at division and subtraction but are unaware of addition or multiplication. If your second grader tells you that 3 + 2 = 1, you know he’s a future socialist. Likewise if he tells you that taxes on cigarettes discourage smoking but taxes on investing, hiring or starting a business have only beneficial effects. The economics knowledge of socialists is even more dismal: They think supply and demand means the people demand and the government supplies.

Here are the six ways socialism is anti-social

1. The Plans of Socialists Are More Important Than Yours

2. Socialists Are Know-It-Alls and Know-Nothings, Simultaneously

[this is my personal favorite...laffriot]

3. Socialism Rejects Biological Science

4. Socialists Call the Cops for Everything

5. Socialism Is Anti-Capital

6. Conflict Is Their God

A man who chooses between drinking a glass of milk and a glass of a solution of potassium cyanide does not choose between two beverages; he chooses between life and death. A society that chooses between capitalism and socialism does not choose between two social systems; it chooses between social cooperation and the disintegration of society. Socialism is not an alternative to capitalism; it is an alternative to any system under which men can live as human beings.

I'll take the socialists over the Nazis, thank you.

When are the socialists coming over? From Canada, no doubt.
they're here. Bernie ,AOC, Biden,Warren the rest of the Democrat party that is heading their way.
Remember , ten years ago Bernie Sanders was considered and amusing, bloviating , buffoon. Last election he was a serious contender for the Dem nomination.
What was one of Bidens' first moves? The Build Back Better , aka great reset, aka more sociialism ( see points 1 and 2 above)
What else did Biden do? He took on the role of a dictator to concoct a phony emergency to forgive student loan debt as a way to gain one party power.
Any questions?

Elizabeth Warren is a former Republican, which shows you how far the Republicans have fallen, and how American politics has lurched so enormously to the right.

What a load of simpleminded bullshit. Pick any sentence out of it, print it on bumper stickers and you'll sell 'em out by lunchtime.

Are you saying federal spending goes down when Republicans control Congress? How about Republican Presidents?

Neither major political party has any intention of reducing overall federal government power and/or expense. They have different advertised priorities, but basically share the same mission - to nationalize (federalize?) as much as possible.

Note how many republicant congress critters were promising to ‘fight the rising crime’ in our states and cities if elected. Isn’t that simply calling for increasing federal government power and expense? Of course it is, since that’s (currently) the responsibility of state and local governments.

Don't ya just love catch phrases? "Socialism" is one that has a particular sting to it, for certain people that is.

Socialism can mean different things. Never mind the dictionary definition. For a certain segment of the American population, socialism spells communism, and it's a scary phrase.

For those of us who live in countries that have a social democracy, a form of socialism if you will, we are doing just fine WITHOUT the angst. We aren't pissing our pants because we have universal health care, mandatory paid sick leave or paid maternity leave. We don't piss our pants because spend more on social programs than we do on military hardware.

By American standards, every democracy in the world is pretty much a "socialist" country. Those who lack historical context, have never studied sociology or refuse to engage in critical thinking, will refer to outlets like fee.org to confirm their already firmly held biases.

Overall, we rate The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) Right-Center biased based on left-leaning views regarding social issues and far-right views on economics.
In general, FEE is socially left, as are most Libertarians, and fiscally far right.

SO what we learned today is that @KLATTU has no ****ing clue what socialism is, and actually talking issues is beyond his ability.

You go tell all the seniors that you want their Social Security back and that there won’t be any more checks forthcoming.

Start there with your crusade against socialism.

Let us know how it works out.

If a socialist system is voted into and kept in place through democracy that is free will.

The more capitalism comes to benefit an extreme few and do harm to the many, the more it, and conservatives, will drive people to socialism. That is entirely natural. If we anssume that people have free will and act according to their own individual best interests, the system that logically should result is whatever benefits the largest group of individuals. It’s systems that only benefit the few that must be enforced through bullying, violence, and misinformation.

I say this as someone who is generally a fan of capitalism, with reasonable limits.

So according to you our only option is to vote for people who attack all our institutions, attack our country, and promote white supremacy?

Why don't you sell us on why Republicans are better rather than sit back and trash the other party? What will today's Republican bring to us other than move towards white supremacy and authoritarianism?

In sales you have to promote your product. Attacking the competitor only makes the seller look petty.

Tell us what YOU have to offer as an alternative.

It's amazing to see how someone can see what JUST happened to the rail workers and claim that "Dems keep pushing more socialism."

This country is further from socialism than in the 1920s and it's not getting any closer.
I think the OP just watched Tucker. I'd just like to see if the OP can sell us on the alternative rather than just attack the other side.

Trying to define any and all government run income redistribution programs as socialism (or socialist) is pure nonsense.

Take SNAP as an example: it doesn’t change ownership or control of the means of production one bit, meaning that it is not socialism (or socialist) at all. SNAP benefits are used to pay full retail price (including profit) at privately owned and run grocery stores. The grocery providers (and producers supplying their products) remain 100% capitalist.

Gawd forbid any candidate run on cutting expenses that would make him be called soft on crime or soft on defense or soft on illegal immigration etc. If any cuts in federal spending get proposed it's always diverting money from the poorest segments of society.
And in fact, outside of a blip in '20 crime in the US has been trending downward steadily since the '90's.
You're right, both parties run on increased spending, it's just that increasing spending to improve lives is vile socialism whileincreasing the revenue of government contractors is happy capitalism! According to those who want to sell their agenda to the simple-minded.

Did you have any specific socialist policies that you are against that are currently in the works right now?

Yes. The “Medicare for All” idea is definitely socialist.

This bill establishes the Medicare for All Program to provide all individuals residing in the United States and U.S. territories with free health care that includes all medically necessary care, such as primary care and prevention, dietary and nutritional therapies, prescription drugs, emergency care, long-term care, mental health services, dental services, and vision care.

Only public or nonprofit institutions may participate. Nonprofit health maintenance organizations (HMOs) that deliver care in their own facilities may participate.

Patients may choose from participating physicians and institutions.

Health insurers may not sell health insurance that duplicates the benefits provided under this bill. Insurers may sell benefits that are not medically necessary, such as cosmetic surgery benefits.

America is the only first tier country that doesn't have health care for all it's citizens. We spend much more per capita than any of these other countries on health care and don't have better outcomes.

Again the only reason we don't have it is the propaganda of our wealthiest citizens. They can afford the best health care in the world and have no intention of paying higher taxes for something they have no need of.

The biggest problem I see with this one is Money, where are they going to get the money for this? Definitely socialist in nature, it would be helpful, I would think something on a smaller scale would work better though. Some form of insurance for people who can't afford current medical practices. Something like Obama care but with actual thought put into it. I personally hate the price practices that hospitals use. when they charge 40$ for a simple dose of Tylenol there is something wrong.

The biggest problem with M4A is outlawing private medical care insurance and requiring that all providers of ’covered’ medical care goods/services become public (aka government owned) or non-profit entities. Telling CVS, Walgreens or Walmart that their pharmacies can no longer make a profit is simply insane.
